Not that he necessarily wrote them all, but encouraged and assisted. There were, however, quite a few songs that Lanni co-wrote. Just look at the lyrics sections of the SM booklet. Most are written by "R. Maida", but some are also credited to "A. Lanni"

And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

That's what I was thinking. I mean wasn't Rock the one that told Raine to change "We are all arrogant" to "We are all innocent", or something along those lines. I do agree that the lyrics don't even compare to lyrics of the past, but I wouldn't be so quick to put too much blame on Raine.
This is my story both humble and true,
Take it to pieces and mend it with glue.

No, definately not. But the influence of the producer has shifted heavily.

Plus, Raine might want to write the lyrics he's writing now. We may say that the old lyrics are better, but "better" is subjective.

raine's saving his best songs for avril, kelly clarkson and the backstreet boys lol.
there isn't a shadow of doubt in my mind that raine can write songs, i just think that he doesn't want them to fly over people's heards anymore.
in an interview he said that with the new songs; the band is going for instant gratification. making the lyrics more accessable may be their way of doing it.

I love the oo whoooooo's at the start of "the Future Will Blame Us"....and that guitar riff is pretty cool.....

This album reminds me of U2 meets the production of Bon Jovi in the stylings of OLP...

Raine's voice seems much...larger with these songs. sort of like Bono's but not quite.

Just a reminder, Raine isn't writing lyrics just for you. ;) He is writing what is on his mind, and how he wants to say it. If he wanted to write something that is filled with ambiguity and complexity, you would hear it. There is never EVER going to be another Naveed, Clumsy, Happiness..., or SM. Ever. Every album has a different theme, a different message, hell even a different lineup. Even between Happiness and SM the band is somewhat different with Matt Cameron filling in on a few tracks. From Gravity to the new album will be different because Steve will be playing on all the songs, instead of having tracks with Mike, Jamie, and Steve. If lyrical complexity is what you desire, invest some time in the sea of other wonderful music that is out there, or keep on playing the first 4 albums over and over.

Robbo wrote:I also love the guitar on Don't Stop. For once a song where simple anthemic lyrics are accompanied by guitar playing that's slightly more complicated.

I've waited for a long 3 years to see what Steve can do.

I approve.
