"Wipe..." Title Official?

Post by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named »

From olp.cc:

A rumour is spreading on some forums that the upcoming cd title is "Wipe That Smile Off Your Face". Leave your thoughts on this rumoured title in the newly posted Poll. Thanks to Husain for the info.

Of course, this doesn't have any real source or "inside info" as the spark of the rumors, and this is something that we heard like a year ago.

However, we do know how sometimes these things lead to truth.

Anyway, I personally do not like the title, although if utilized it could produce the craziest cover art this side of a bare-chested man lying on an operating table swinging from a fish attached to wire.

Although I suppose it's better than going the Metallica way and possibly calling it "Re-Gravity"

I think the title is a little too risky, especially if people who absolutely hate the CD get their hands on it.

We'll be hearing bad jokes forever.

I think the title is thought-provoking (provided it comes to be true)

The song is very political, so potentially the album could have some more 'thought-provoking' songs within it. Makes me think...

I thought the same thing about happiness when i heard the title. For me it will really depend on the art direction. A good cover can make any title look good. Oh.. and good music helps too. :freak:

my biggest fear is they're gonna be a fucking political with this album. I hate when musicians do that. Look how annoying the dixie chicks are!. Always trying to use thier popularity as musicians to voice they're opinion about shit they have no idea or knowledge about. When Raine always introduced this song on the last tour, it was just about that, POLITICS!. Make music, don't try to change what happening in todays world. Just make fucking music. I'm done

You've got to be kidding me...

Now if that isn't the most moving album title I've ever come across, I don't know what is  I wonder what exactly was going through their heads "I think we should make the theme of this album 'men in their thirties trying to sound like pre-pubescent punks'"

I dunno, depending on the songs it could work well... at the same time I think with a little more thought put into it they could come up with a title that can satisfy all bases, the poll about the current rumoured title on olp.cc is showing a big split.

Yes, of course, depending on the song it could be genius or absolutely horrible but recent experience has given me the tendency to predict the latter. To me it just screams "Do what I tell you to do! Hate the establishment! Go sit in a corner and cry!" well Raine, aren't you the altruist. I'll just go make myself some tofu and throw on some Dashboard. Really, if I heard an album title like "Wipe That Smile Off Your Face" I would think "Dear god, someone resurrected Twisted Sister!" If it's supposed to be political, that would be even more pathetic if that's possible

I don't think we can fairly use, "Well, there are a lot WORSE titles for an album," as an excuse for it being a good title. I mean, they could have gone with, "This album is dog poop. And it sucks and will never make any money, and Metallica rox0rzez." But they didn't, so we're commenting on what they did give us.

On the poll, I voted "Not Really." I mean, I won't think twice about buying the album or anything. However, it just doesn't feel very... OLP-ish. All the titles before have been short, and one-word, except for Happiness..., but even that had only one word on the cover. Oh right, and Spiritual Machines. But that wasn't very long.

Okay, the truth is, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. But even so, I'm not a big fan of the title. I suppose it will grow on me.

And, of course, the above is all assuming this is true. I doubt it is... I don't know why, if it were to be the title, they wouldn't have announced it. You know, get some early publicity in for it.

my biggest fear is they're gonna be a fucking political with this album.

I've definitely felt a political vibe in some of OLP's earlier songs (ie. The Birdman, Denied, Carnival). What made those songs work though is that they could be interpreted in different ways. If the new lyrics are overtly political (which they probably will be if they are going to deal with politics.. I haven't seen a lot of sublety in the new lyrics) then I don't know how much I'll like them either.

That being said I think the band has to go with what is inspiring to them, and the state of the world at the moment is pretty frightening and frustrating.

I think Walking in Circles has a very political tone (I see it as either anti-capitalist or being questioning of capitalism) but it might work on more personal levels as well. Either way I think we have to wait and see...

*wonders what forums those would be* :Johnathan:

Not to sound... mean... but, most of the OLP forums I've seen other than this one aren't very... umm... OLP-informed.
