sewing suggestions anyone?

my father's cousin who i met yesterday is a home ec teacher. she asked me to come up with ideas for simple sewing projects for grade 8s and 9s that would appeal to boys as well as girls. she said they make boxers and hoodies, but she needs some smaller projects. i suggested a tool belt with a couple pockets and a belt loop made of fabric, and she seemed to like that, and wants more suggestions by sunday. so i am asking you...

any ideas? if you were in the class, what would you want to make? or, what have you made that would be fairly easy for these kids to work on?

we made stuffed animals in home ec in grade 7 .. worst class ever :lol:

Ummmm, gloves or mittens maybe, touques, can you sew that stuff or is that knitting only? :S, table clothes, runners for tables (long sheet of decorative cloth that runs across the table), napkins

In my 8th grade home ec class I made a bookbag, a stuffed bear (it's cute!), and some pajama pants.

We made teddy bears. :nod:

I think what we did was we had the option to make the teddy bears or these big football-shaped pillows. That way the boys and girls can each make something they want.

ooooh. i like some of those ideas. the problems would be patterns. in terms of teddy bears, was it a one-piece cut out pattern, or were the arms, head, torso, legs, separate?

The teddy bears we made were three pieces... one piece for the back, one for the front, then one for the nose. :nod:

my aunt made a laundry bag out of some old baggy pants. she gave it to my mom and my mom made a better base for it.

Whoa, they never even let us near that stuff till 7th grade. Even then that was questionable. :lol:

The teddy bears we made were pertty complicated. Come to think of it, my mom did it for me :lol:
