Help! I need somebody! (music suggestions)

Help! Not just anybody!

Okay, here's the deal. I need some new music to listen to. And I need it now. It has to be something that I can get really into, and really love. There's a lot of great music out there that I haven't even tried yet, so I'm open to just about anything.

So, for this thread, name a band/artist and a couple of essential tracks that give a fairly good general idea of their overall sound. That way myself and others can go ahead and download them to check them out.

Built to spill-Perfect From Now On

I bought it because the cover practically says "spiritual Machines" all over. Upon listening to it and comparing it to other records, it really is the "spiritual machines" of that band. Noteworthy tracks are "I would hurt a fly" "And Randy Described Eternity" and "Out of Site"

ok then, how about... The Strokes? or maybe Ben Folds Five? (I know these aren't exactly new bands/music, but you probably have only heard their singles...)

I tried out some Built To Spill, and they're not bad. Not really what I'm looking for right now, but I'll keep them in mind in case the urge for such music should come up in the future.

2. Sufjan Stevens - Michigan (folk music with a message...sweet!)
3. Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs Vol. 2 (Odd music that thanks Ray Kurzweil!)
4. Pas/Cal - The Handbag Memoirs (America's Belle & Sebastian!)
5. Saturday Looks Good To Me - All Your Summer Songs (So very good and mellow!)
6. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (They're the gods of indie rocks ya know!)
7. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People

I'll give you more as I think of different cds that I like.

I have an idea of what you listen to, since I listen to a lot of it as well, and the only thing I can suggest is maybe Incubus or Sam Roberts if you don't already listen to them.

Well, if you think about it, it doesn't always have to be along the same lines as of what one person listens to.

Music preferences can change if introduced into certain bands. I was all into punk before I got banned, then I come back and I'm all about folk music and indie rock. It just takes a particular cd or two to make you realize what's out there, ya know? Without Neutral Milk Hotel and their weird music, I would probably still be all about bands like Alkaline Trio, but because I just picked up a cd I heard was good, I like a whole new kind of music.

I've checked out a couple of songs from each of the bands you suggested, and they're not bad, but nothing's really clicking yet.

Hmm... Searching for new stuff is harder than I thought.

only i warn you... listening could induce at least a three month obsession. in all honesty, devine is the best new music i've heard all year.

here's the link to his site on which three songs stream, they're all good but to kick things off i reccomend skipping ahead to "People are so Fickle", then "Ballgame", and finish it up with a little "Not Over you Yet."

Ben Folds- Mess, Always Someone Cooler Than You, Still Fighting It.
The Early November- Every Nights Another Story, I want to hear you sad.
Built To Spill- The Plan
The Postal Sevice- The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
Sunny Day Real Estate- Seven
The Cure- The 13th, Close to Me etc...
Ozma- Baseball, Gameover (I think you would really like Gameover.)
Mae- Soundtrack for our movie
Kent- 747 :drool:

Ok thats probaly enough, or too much heh. I'm not sure which bands you are already familiar with etc so a bunch of these you may know already.

Rob, if you've yet to hear Raindance by The Music, go find it NOW. :nod:

Also, Karma and Alone are good to. They were on assorted ep's they released over in the UK, and they're seriously better than a lot of the stuff on their debut. And you and I both know how good their debut was. :drool:

Raindance is awesome.

I love how they have all of this stuff streamable on their site. No annoying searches for rare songs. :nod:
