I heard that earlier today

:uh:

I don't care. He's been locked in a state between life and death for like the past 5 years. It's not a huge shock. The announcer on the radio started off with "Ronald Reagan, 40th president of the United States..." and I was like "dead".

And he wasn't my favorite president either.

Perhaps not your favourite, but certainly one of the more famous presidents.

True, but he doesn't deserve most of it.

If he replaces Roosevelt on the dime I am going to smack someone.

The fact that there's an airport named after him is bad enough.

Why dont you think he does? Britain and Europe will be forever indebted to him for his relations with the USSR. Although, he is republican. Rather, was.

He was horrible for the enviornment. His domestic policy was definitely sub par. He put Ketchup as one of the required vegetables for school lunches. His "trickle down" economics caused a big defecit. It's the same Idea that Bushy uses today, hence why we are in a 5 trillion dollar deficit.

As for international policy, four words: star wars defense system. It is without question one of the biggest wastes of money in US history. Money is STILL being funded into it, when the odds of being attacked by a suicide bomber is significantly more likely than being hit by a long-range nuke. Something like 1/20 of that cumulative money could be used for preventing suicide bombers and practical forms of terrorism. The rest could go to domestic problems and repairing the economy.

Granted Reagan helped with the USSR, but some of his policies were pretty dang damaging too.

But Nancy's OK. She helped push for stem cell research so Ronny might live.

As for being a republican, there's nothing wrong with that. I happen to disagree with many republican views, but that doesn't make me bias someone off of that. My representative is a republican and I think he is an excellent politician. My friend is a republican and I can see logic behind his arguments (although he has a strange amount of bias towards communism in general). Being on one side of the fence doesn't determine the kind of person you are.

And I apologize in advance if this argument breaks any friendship bonds :P .

Thats Ironic. Thats your republican friend would have bias towards communism, instead of against it. I do agree with some of your arguments though.

It was my dad's. Now it's my gym shirt.

Well, regardless of his policies and everything (I honestly know near to nothing about politics today, let alone the politics that were happening when I was a very little kid), he seemed like a good guy. CNN aired a little segment on his sense of humor, and I was definitely laughing out loud a lot. It's good that his struggle with Alzheimer's is now over, but still sad. RIP. :(

He died ten years ago with his speech "and now I ride into the sunset of my life"

The entire nation has been anticipating this since 1994, so I guess it's not as tragic as it could be.

Not tragic, no, but it's still sad whenever anyone dies. I mean, my grandparents are 83, and I don't ever want them to die. :(

He did leave a bit of a legacy.

He was the first president to break the presidential curse. Every 20 years since 1840 A president will die in office if elected in that Year. In 1981 a bullet missed his heart by an inch. Surgery saved him and the curse broke since Bush only has till November to die (I hope).
