Are you gonna, like, CARVE the body yourself and stuff? Cos that'd be cool.

lol, ya Im aware its gonna be hard. But as I said, I've got some time during the summer, and as long as I can make myself work on it (I usualy try to put these things off ) I figure I should be able to do it. Thx for the link.

It can be done. A friend of mine made a electric guitar as a woodshop project in school. Just make sure you have the proper hardware. You wont get very far without powertools.
cool, how did he go about making it? did he come up w/ everything himself or did he read how somewhere?

Quick tip: go out and buy a cheap beginner guitar that you can take apart as an example of how things are put together (you can buy really really cheap starter guitars at Sears or something).
Ya, I'd like to make it from scratch. My first one obviously wont be really good, but it'll be a start. Thx for the begginer guitar idea, but can u really get them from Sears?? Oh and btw, I'm planning on building a Bass, if that has ne effect on any ideas.

By self carved do you mean literally carved by hand or do you mean running it through a machine?
If its through a machine then yes it would sound right as long as you found a good chunk of wood. I'm sure you could make it sound decent if it was carved with just hand tools as well but it would take a freaking long time and a lot of patience.

I'm sure he read quite a bit into it. After all it was a school project for marks and he's a serious guitar player. He did come up with the shape of the guitar by himself though.

Go to a pawn shop and buy a piece of shit guitar. Practice taking apart its wiring and then re-wire the axe.
There was a co-op type course on this offered at a school here in Kingston. It took a full semester (that's all day, every day, all semester) to learn how to build them and then actually build them. I believe they carved them by hand, but it was under intense supervision to ensure they did it right.
For an electric guitar, does the body actually affect the sound that much?? I thought that only REALLY mattered for acustic... and I am planning on using machines, I dont know if I could do the carving (would add sooo much time to it).
And that course, sounds intense.. I dont know, I'm gonna give it a try, see where I go. I will have to buy a cheap ass guitar, from sears/pawn shop like u said.. I'll have to check and see if I can find some better sites, and some books... keep up the feedback if u have nething for me thx.
