tattoo help

Post by namkablam »

Here's the story.. back in 2000-01, being the stupid boy in love, I got my girlfriend's name tattoo'd on my back.
Who woulda thought we wouldn't be together forever.. blah :P

I'm all grown up kinda and I'm ready to get another tattoo over it.
It's been many years with different ideas and I've got it now with a few things up in the air.

Here's the pics:

2 things to figure out:

I wouldn't even think twice about the heart with the white ambulance/paramedic cross in there except for that's it's hard to produce white with tattoos (bunch of stuff about skin colour and the white ink being overwhelmed with your natural melanin.. apparently it's harder to produce white with darker skin and/or keeping the white ink, white). You can read about white ink with tattos here.
I'm 99% sure of going with the heart with the cross without any colour if white is not an option.

The other thing is which way the tattoo should go. I like the placement of my current tattoo. With the new tattoo, the top portion of the escalator is going over the name.
If we go upwards towards the left we have good placement except for the heart. It might be too high and off to the left too much.
Now if we go upwards towards the right, the heart might be too much towards the middle.. kinda wanna keep things on the centered on the left.
My initial plan was to go upwards towards the left but I'm 99% certain of going upwards/right.

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
I'm going to let it sink in for a few weeks and we'll see what happens.

hmmm namu i dunt quite understand how it would work to get it over the name, wouldnt u still be able to read the name?
and i say no cross just cuz....white ink? even if not white ink, its better wtihout it
hmm and i say i like i better going to the left, i dunt think it would be too far left, i think if u did it right tho that it wouldnt really look quite right and would be too far to the center. but ur 99% sure of going to the right :-\
and dude! i cant believe u didnt tell me u had a tattoo b4! and didnt u want sumthing else? i forgot wat it was but it wasnt escalator man haha

Dude, I had no idea you had a tattoo. :freak:

I say have the escalator going up to the right. The heart'd be too close to your shoulder otherwise. And, don't get white ink, even if it would work, it looks weird. :uhh:

Definately go up to the right, with the cross in the heart (no colour on the cross).

Yeah couldn't it just be blank in the heart, you'd still get the same effect. Why do you like the cross in the heart?

Could you get the name to be covered with the body of the buy on the escelator? Then you could go upward to the left and the heart wouldn't be too far off.

In that case, though, it would be huge.

Or, maybe it would fit in the vertical part of the arrow, although then it would be quite high.

my one tattoo has white ink .. just in a few small areas .. but white ink fades a lot quicker .. i would take the tattoo you want to a tattooist and they'll be able to tell you the best way they can place it to cover over your current tattoo .. they might only be able to do it a certain way in order to cover everything up properly ..

Does it have to be a white heart? Something like black, maybe? Then you wouldn't necessarily have to cover the old tattoo with the escalator... I don't know if that would work for you with placement, though.

And if you don't like this one... another coverup. :)

So... is it ok if I hijack the thread for a bit? *listens* I hear no anger...

I really want the tiny bat on my lower abdominal, shoulder blade or my ankle. I'd really prefer to be able to wear strappy heels at fashionable events without Sex and the City types picking on me, but I'm thinking it might look better on the ankle.

I'm thinking abdomen, just under where I where my jeans so it can be hidden away at my wedding and job interviews, but still easily shown off.

Image

I also suspect i'm a loser for wanting it. Any thoughts? Please help! It's my first time getting one and I'm painfully uncool.

edit: wow, i must have been tired last night. sooo many mistakes... i'm still tired, dammit, i don't even know why I'm trying :P

No laughing! I just think bats kick ass and that one's cool. :D

According to some quiz I took, my sexual power animal is a bat, described as "energetic, cute, and surprisingly cuddly." So ever since then, my bf has called me little bat. (Before that it was mousie but now I'm a winged mousie.) There's other parts too, but you don't wanna hear them.

So it's not just a PA tattoo.

all I will say is to get it somewhere that won't sag in a few years. Alot of young girls go for the breast/chest area. It looks all cute and adorable when you are in your 20's, but as you age it doesn't look so good.

I never heard about a tat stretching from pregnancay. It is no different then if you lost of gain wait.

I was going to get a tat high up on my inner thigh as a joke years ago, but I didn't. I have a tat on my left shoulder and left arm. I am getting 2 on my right ankle and one I haven't figured out where I want to place it yet.

Remember Tats are forever-so be 100% as to where and what.

NAM-I like the one on the lower right hand coner. I wouldn't get white though. I don't think they have white anyway? Don't remember.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again
