Hey all you political nutmegs:

In your opinion, what qualities would make a President successful? What president, if any, so far has been successful?

Whoever is president, he will never make everyone happy, ever.

I don't think a president should try to make everyone happy. That's not his job. His job is to uphold the Constitution to ensure that everyone has the chance to be happy. To make sure that people have the rights they should, as well as a means to react peacefully when those rights are violated to get them back.

Do you feel there is any past/current President that has done an acceptional job of this?

i totally agree with Narbus, and if you read over what he said Bush has broken just about every single thing that makes a good president, not to mention tons of things not mentioned.

Clinton was pretty good, sure he wasn't perfect, no one is. But at least he did a decent job.

Clinton was just as stupid as Bush.

But that doesn't make him a bad president. He made a bad moral choice but it doesn't affect the nation. Running the deficit into the ground does.

The old prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Natenyahu ran in to this. But he didn't lie like Clinton did (which was REALLY stupid). He basically said what I said above, that personal decisions moral or immoral don't affect him as a good leader, and he was pretty much left alone after that.

Bill Clinton was very very intelligent, and a good president, but he was a philanderer. Which really has no affect on the American Public, and he <i>did</i> uphold the constitution, something bush hasnt done. <b>PLUS</b>, he's a democrat.

He was probably the most republican democrat on record, but oh well, I felt he did a pretty good job.

Really I have no clue what would make a good US president only because I'm not from the States. I know, as an outsider, what I'd like to see... but I think what outsiders would like to see is a lot different then what Americans want.

I disagree. Saying Americans DON'T want what everyone else want is a bit of a generalization. I've met people from other countries in person and we hold the same values.

And are you sure clinton was a conservative democrat? because I'd have to give that award to Johnson.

Yeah i'm an outsider also. And Americans certainly are <b>different</b> than canadians. but i do know one thing. for the sake of the rest of the world(well, what will be left after bush is through) please do not vote republican. I know he's <i>your</i> president, but i dont want to be nuked

Yeah i think Johnson was much more conservative.

I don't know who was more republican, I'm just saying that he was a pretty right leaning democrat.

There's a difference between values, and issues within a country.

can I rephrase that? Our values on the issues were similar.

I feel good about the elections this year. My parents saw Kerry and he was incredibly charismatic. I think he's got a good shot.

Well I know for a fact that Canadian values are different, especially since we have universal health care, and are far less conservative (i.e. decriminalization of marijuana, and legalization of same-sex marriages, which has begun in a few provinces)

When Canada calls an election soon, issues such as border security, and immigration policies aren't going to be brought up.
