People, is it really neccessary to speed in the winter time? Today I went into Edmonton and I was constantly being passed by other numbskull drivers! I was going about 100KMH and the people passing me were going from 120-140 KMH down the highway? Is it wise to drive that fast down a highway when the highway conditions arent good?

I had to laugh at some of the other drivers who passed me today because they hit the ditch! Silly tossers!

So with that being said.....

SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!! :mad:

agreed, some people (mostly truck and SUV drivers who think they are invinsible because of the size of their vehicles) are stupid.

Pure Stupidity. People drive too fast in the city as well ex:70 in a 50 zone. And the roads in Edmonton arent the greatest right now :uh:

no they're not. I've actually found that since the plows have been out the roads have just gotten worse, because under all the snow . . . ice!!!

Worst part of it is that people seem to think its safe to drive fast on a sanded road. Myself for example, I was driving no faster than 40KMH tonight. Sanded roads arent garunteed to be fit for driving

If the administration wants to make money.........tax freakin SUV drivers because SUV's are the biggest waste of not only gas, but space. Tax 'um.....tax 'um harshly and nobody will buy 'um anymurr.

my car is so bad in winter. I have on average one near fatal spin a week. I spent all my money on new brakes though so i can't afford new tires for it. I'm lucky if i can push 40 in the city, mainly because our roads are so bad right now. What even more fun though was eeing some guy from Arizona mess up his car. I was following him for a bit and could tell from the start he was going to wreck his car. First he just pins it all the time like he's on dry pavement, and when he starts to slip a bit, or get stuck, what's he do??? Gives it MORE GAS!! So he's all over the road, and finally he catches some bad ice, and instead of immediatly taking his foot off the gas like any sane Canadian, he continues to hold it evn after he starts to spin, then he turns the wrong way and does a 360 and lands in the ditch. Fucktard! Don't try and turn the opposite way your back end is fish tailing man! :mad:

I hear ya.......my tires are shot too. It's amazing how my fiance's car won't slide a bit on the wintry roads, but I slide even when it's like today (sunny 'n actually MILD) :lol:

it sucks, badly.

Now I have to wait for my loans refund to get here before I get put a new set on.....plus I could probably use new brakes as well.

But I do agree that you have to drive safely in winter and not speed, but some people can exagerate a little and drive 60 km/h on the highway, which is sanded (salted actually). And Dutch highways are in a little better state than the Canadian roads, it's safe enough to do 100-120, so by driving so slow they make it more dangerous.

except I've only ever driven in snow once, so I probably freaked out a little too

As examples of how the whole country goes to pieces when it snows: when it snowed last week it took one of the guys I work with an hour to drive less than a mile because the traffic practically gridlocked. And at least 2 people out of the 140 odd in my office had car crashes on the way to work because people slid on the ice and hit them!

i saw the craziest thing too. i was commomg home from dropping off a friend of mine at work and i was stopped at a red light. there was a brand new dodge truck in front of me at the light and a gold crystler next to it. when the light turned green, almost immediately, the damn crystler put it's signal light on and side swiped the truck, right in fron of me.

sucks to be that guy with a new dented dodge, but at the same time i feel kind of good knowing that a dodge truck got what it was asking for. i later looked and saw that it was an old lady driving the car. man, old people need to stop driving.

Last year the best thing happened to my dad. (well, no. Its horrible and crule but still really funny) He was driving on the highway to get home one night after dropping someone off. Since we live on the far end of the city, taking the highway around is the fastest way. Anyways its like midnight and its snowing and the car goes off into a ditch. His cell phone wont work, he can't get the car out of the ditch, and its late so no one else is on the road. So what did he do? Walk home. Truth be told, he wasn't that far...but nothing was open either so he couldn't call a tow truck either. The next day he got his car back and everything. But what made the whole thing really funny is that the newspapers here took a picture of the car and just had a little piece about how it was the owner-less car. And if the car crashed and someone was injured where did they go? Who owns the mystery car? (for some reason no one knows about licence plates).

The moral of the story: when its snowing heavily at midnight, don't take the highway home.

well, technically, the roads are more slippery when it is -1C than when it is -18C. because at -18C, the ice is solid, whereas at -1C, the ice is more like a lubricant and makes your car slide more.

Same here, that day there were 68 traffic jams in Holland with a total length of 571 kilometer (357 miles). The record is 975 km (609 miles), also because of snow. Normally there are about 32 traffic jams with a total length of 312 km (195 miles).
This may not sound much to you North Americans but remember that Holland is about 300 by 200 kilometers big (188 by 125 miles).
