i never realized.....

Post by I AM ME »

how much Raine tries to be Bono untill now.

I knew that Bono was a major impact on his life, but i didn't know enough U2 to realize it. Raine has molded himself after Bono. And i now see a bit of the method to Raines madness. By going simpler he was tring to get more like U2's sound, he just lacked the subject matter and finesse that U2 had on the early albums.

for more proof listen to some old U2, check out what Bono thinks of War, and Televangalists (Lying awake), Anti-American Policies. even certain stage mannerisms seem to come from Bono........how much time exactly did raine spend in front of a mirror imitating Bono?

Someone should really email Bono and tell him about his biggest fan

yeah i recognized "on a bed of nails I wait" from U2.. is there other stuff? hopefully not "i miss your purple hair" :P

Also I think the base in Naveed (the song) sounds like that from Bullet the Blue Sky.

oh the whole use the stage light to see the crowd is a Bono trick too, it's even the same kind.

as for not liking U2, i don't really like the new stuff alot, or the techno stuff, but there were some really good songs like "Exit", "Bullet the blue sky" (live is amazing) "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "with or with out you", "one"

I think the U2 lyrics in SOT are more a friendly nod in U2's direction more than anything, seriously, the guy has wayy too much talent and integrity to "steal" things.

This is old news. Raine's even talked about this kind of stuff in interviews.

I know what you mean. While I wouldn't go so far as to say I "hate" them, they certainly are not one of my favorites. I actually bought one of their albums, Pop, and while I thought it was good, that's all I thought. I mean it wasn't great nor are any of their other songs that I know (mostly just the radio hits). I don't dislike U2, I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

Back on topic, I don't doubt that Raine is a fan of U2, but I don't think he makes a concious effort to copy them (or Bono) in lyrics, music, or whatever else. It's quite possible that he has been influenced by U2, but I don't think it's enough influence to say that the two bands really have the same sound.

You know CLumsyboy. When I first heard the Naveed CD I went to myself OMG, this reminds me so much of early U2.Then I thought I was being crazy cause I am a U2 fan. I didn't know at that time the influence Bono had on Raine and Edge had on Mike.

I see the similarities between Raine and Bono in more ways then one. I jokingly call Raine Bono JR. I told my friend the other night If Raine comes out with a Canadian Flag wrapped around him while singing Wipe That Smile-The Bono transformation will be complete.

On a serious note. I love that Raine finds influence from Bono, but I want Raine to be his own person. He is just as passionate as Bono is with lyrics, world views, etc, etc. I guess that is why I love both men as much as I do.

P.S. I wouldn't say Raine is imitating Bono, as much as you can see the influence. Then again, believe it or not, there are people out there who Raine has influenced. A person can do worse.

MrFeynman
With Reference to SOT> I said that Raine must of been listening tot he Joshua Tree when he wrote that song.

Raine-On a bed of nails I wait

Bono-On a bed of nails she makes me wait(with or without you)

Raine-I watched the red orange glow
Bono-From the firefly, a red orange glow(bullet in the blue sky)

and let's not forget while U2 do Bullet, Bono shines a huge spotlight on the audience.
Watch the OLP DVD. I forgot what song, but Raine does the spotlight.
that seems to be the new things withlead singers Shinning spotlight on the audience.

I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

The first time I heard SOT I was rather pissed cause it was the first OLP song I ever heard and knew it was them and I love U2. I thought it was blatant stealing. I've changed my mind, and I never really thought that that may be the reason I love OLP so much. Weirdness. My favorite song ever: One.
