You Know What I Wish Raine Would Do?

Post by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named »

Take some vocal lessons.

He has obviously been singing for years and years, and he might not think he needs them, but he needs to find his voice again. I think he can still sing, and it definitely shows, but he needs to improve his techniques, especially with a new album and consequently a new tour on deck. He is going to slaughter his voice, if he hasn't already.

The band has improved at guitar since Steve came on deck, but Raine has been declining, and that's obviously not a good thing.

I don't know if this slightly deeper voice thing he is doing is actually his intention, and it might be, but he definitely needs to polish.

I'm wondering if age and touring has changed it??

I hope he doesn't pull an Eddie Vedder and lose it completely......

I guess this new album will be the answer to a lot of questions.......I'm not that concerned about his live perfomances.....just hope he doesn't blow it out.

Here's two things you need to know about life.

1. Raine is infallible. He can do no wrong. He can dumb his songs down to extrodinary depths, even as low as Puddle Of Mud, and completely abandon his unique voice, and it's still OK.

2. You're a moron. Mike > Steve. There's no debating this.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Enough with the personal attacks.......its pathetic.

I haven't personally made up my mind about Steve and Mike. I'm gonna listen to the new album and make my own call.

Why is it that one has to be better than the other? Why can't they just be great in their own style?

Mike definetely has some good material.........I don't think I'll try and directly compare them if the music is good. Steve isn't Mike and shouldn't really be treated that way. Steve has his own style to offer and I'm hoping that it changes with OLP.........from what I've heard I like Steve. He can rip it up on faster songs like Not Afraid and No WARning, but also has that soul that makes the music unique. The Wipe that smile off your face solo is excellent..........

Anyways, I know this debate will live forever.........just hope that fans will accept the differences (especially if they are good)

I don't think Raine needs vocal lessons, but I do miss those high notes he used to hit, especially on Happiness.

You haven't listened to the Concert for Toronto yet, have you?

In any case, I agree. Raine bearing a child is probably not great for his voice.

I don't try to compare Steve to Mike. They're two completely different guitar players; both are great in their own right.

It's not as good as it was.. The deep voice just doesn't do most of the old songs justice and it's not really so unique anymore. :(

It's my opinion. I'm sure you think you're "supreme" because you don't like OLP anymore or whatnot and because you've been around here longer than I have, or that you are from Detroit ("OmG i saw oLp 253764437 times at teh state theatre n they was so much betterbackj when!!`q1) or whatever it might be. You are a piece of garbage to attack someone like you did on a message board about an opinion on a subject that has no relevance in the grand scheme of things. Pathetic individual.

On album, Mike played on better songs, but I believe that Steve is a more talented guitarist with more potential(I believe Mike is better on some songs, including my favorite, Naveed). This doesn't mean I don't like Mike and love what he did for OLP. This doesn't mean that I think OLP will max out their potential with Steve, either.

Doesn't mean that Steve is a better person, better interviewer, or whatever you think this implies with me stating this.

In addition, I never said Raine could do no wrong. Apparently my opinion is wrong because I still am a fan of OLP and have faith in them, even after the slip up (imagine that, I don't like Gravity) and still like to listen to the band and not spout off about how long I have gone without listening to them.

I feel the live show is better with Steve and that Raine just needs to tune his vocals. I believe they still have potential.

You are really pathetic.

Oh, and thanks for constructively adding to the topic. Waste of bandwith.

what does this mean though i am very curious:

"or that you are from Detroit ("OmG i saw oLp 253764437 times at teh state theatre n they was so much betterbackj when!!`q1)"

because if anyone types like that on this board they wont be around long.

I agree they have different styles but it just seems to me that Steve is Raine's puppet while Mike had 50/50 with Raine when it came to song writing. I could be very wrong and I am sure many you will say Steve can write what he wants but it just does not show in the new music.

Trust me, it was a bit of exaggeration. :freak: :P

And I obviously don't mind deliberative comments like you presented, a valid argument I might add. I just don't want to form an opinion of Steve's writing with a few clow quality versions of songs. My point was simply referring to the live show in which I feel Steve is more entertaining, although not superior in every way, to Mike.

However, I don't like being personally attacked for stating my opinion. Kthxbye.

Rob has a point though.

It seems as thoug Raine wanted more creative control, and with Mike he had to share it really, while Steve isn't going to walk into a band and say "ok this is what we're doing"

yeah i was just watching MMM's special on the top Canadian artists, and even they said OLP was amazing, but the main thing that set them apart from the rest of the ALt-rock pack was raines really unique voice. Now's he's wrecked it....

on a side note Mikes guitar work was really really good on Naveed, it seemed like he just lost inspiration over time
