Money Bands Want to Play Shows

Post by areusad831 »

I am on an independent music committee at school and we are a school funded group that has about $1300 to spend on two concerts. We try and look for small but kind of known bands to headline the shows. So I e-mailed a few bands and I think its insane how much money bands want to play a show.

Jesse Harris, I bet 90% of you dont know who he is, wants $3500-5000 to play a show. This guy hasnt even played outside of NYC much and he wants $5000. Me thinks winning a grammy got to his head.

I got replies back from a few other bands just saying no they cant play which is funny b/c I dont see many of these bands playing a lot of shows. Rilo Kiley said they could play an acoustic show in January but I am thinking they will ask for like $10,000. And we all know OLP asks for something like $35,000 to play a show

E-mail your favorite band and see how much they want to play a concert for poor college organization trying to promote indie music.

Hey Rob, I will ask Alkaline Trio and Reggie And The Full Effect for you tonight. After that, you could try e-mailing The Early November or Moneen. You could definitely get Moneen for cheap.

how do you email bands and ask them? that actually sounds neat, so see how much they cost.

you e-mail their booking agents and tell them when and where the show is and how big the venue will be. Then they respond and if we find a reasonable price we call them on the phone. I dont think we are gonna find a reasonable headliner to come play until the spring. Anyone want to come play a show for about $200 eh.

WOuld this be a free show Rob? Or would the students have to buy tickets? Cause if they have to buy tickets, that can go towards paying the band. I know you've probably already thought of this but I figured I'd ask.

Really if you get 10$ from everyone that goes and even if you only get 300 ppl thats enough to pay for an act...
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

most likely a free show but if we get a better known act that will cost a lot we may charge. I dont think 300 people on campus know who Jess Harris is but you never know. I really want Early November to play.

well Koufax responded and they want $6000 so looks like I am shooting for bands that are too popular even though they only draw 100 people normally.

Koufax wants $6000? That's laughable. I mean, I love the guys so much, but that much? Honestly, come on. Well, hmm, I dunno.

maybe you could charge like 5-10$ at the door and tie it in with charity somehow...

like call someof the Plea for Peace bands and tell them any procedes are going to suicide prevention... you might get someone to come for fairly cheap that way.
also, find someone who's gonna be in the area anyway, cause they'll obviously want a lot more if they have to make a special trip out to new york for it.

Plea for Peace is like a Warped Tour with a bunch of indie/small label bands... a lot of pretty well known bands and some lesser ones

I'll see if i can find a link.

Asian man records kicks ass.

I think this whole thing is really interesting, if I wasn't so lazy I'd help you. I am really surprised by a lot of these prices.

Yea the take action bands are mostly hardcore bands who i dont listen to besides poison the well who are on tour with deftones right now.

word is next take action tour is going to feature cursive/desaparecidos

jesse harris rep e-mailed me back saying he would consider $2500 but still its a bit much for one not so well known artist to come play. Havent heard anything from the other bands yet

I'm sorry, but I keep seeing this thread and I can't help but think "If there was some way to get $35 000 I could get a OLP concert"

which is mental.
but still...

that is what someone once said and some website had listings about prices of bands. It is probably off but I am sure they get lots and lots of money to play.
