The Family Maida
Does anyone here know anything about Raine's upbringing? In particular, I'm interested in his relationship with his father and brother. "4A.M.," "Are you Sad?," and "Clumsy" are all supposed to be for/about his brother, and blames his father "for the wasted years" and the fact that they "hardly talked," in "4A.M," but is he saying that he and his brother hardly talked, or he and his father. I'm guessing the two Maida siblings are close, at least by now, but await the word of you experts...

I always heard that 4AM is written about his father, not his brother.

no, im pretty sure are you sad is his brother, though i cant remember where i heard that. never heard about clumsy being about him though. and supermans dead wasnt really written for him, but was kinda about him.
and they have a huge age gap between them and are half brothers, so im guessing they're not the closest of the close, but i really dont know.

4am is definetly for his father. 4am stands for 4 A.M. (don't know his dad's first name, but last name is obviously Maida)
Clumsy - Raine said its about giving your brother a hug.
Are You Sad - I am alsmot positive that in one interview Raine said that it was to his friend that didn't want his help... or something like that.

I don't know about Clumsy but Superman's Dead was written for his brother or inspired by him. Something about when he was younger, they would go to the park and things like that, but that his brother was into Beavis and Butthead and Video games. SOmething along those lines.
Are You Sad was written for his brother. The first time I heard it was about Raine being in a Hotel in NYC. He hadn't spoken to his brother in awhile. SOmething about his brother is the only one he really talks to while recording. Plus how he was at that age, where he feels everything is going wrong. I have to find the interviews these came from. hope that helps.

That sounds like what I had heard. The impression I got was that Raine's brother was down on his luck, and Raine knew about it, and had tried to comfort him over the phone. And "down" I can imagine. Think about it: you're the younger brother of a rock star. How do you compare, especially if you're struggling? Does his brother hear "why can't you be more like Raine?" from his father, perhaps?

depends, Raine and His father didn't have a good relationship so maybe not, but it's probably safe to assume that anyone around Adam's age is having alot of problems and getting down alot it's part of the teenage experience

Well, so maybe "4A.M." IS about his brother. It makes sense. If it were about his father, why would he refer to him in third person while referring to the song's inspiration in second ("I've loved YOU all along")? And it would make sense to say "blamed MY father" instead of OUR father since Anthony is his half-brother.
Anyway, this is just speculation...

I know that one of the things about the relationship between raine and his dad was that his father was always devoutly religious and raine always rejected this, until recent years. I've also always understood 'all for you' to be about his father, I don't know if i ever heard this or just assumed it, but it makes sense.

I think it was NIKKI who said that Raine or someone else in OLP said All For You was about the record company.
