The Curse of the 5th Album

Post by InRepair79 »

Besides OLP, I'm also a fan of the bands +LiVE+ and Collective Soul, neither with as much passion as with Raine and co., but a fan nonetheless. It's just occured to me that all three bands produced their worst album on the fifth go-around, and that all three chose the fifth album to be the first (and hopefully last) featuring a picture of the band members on the album cover. Of the three, +LiVE+'s was the egregious violater: music shot through with bullshit macho posturing, self-referential chest thumping, the decleration of fake street cred, etc. The album's name? "V"!!! I guess once you've had four albums, you've officially "made it," so you can comfortably churn out crap for the next one, knowing your fans will buy it up if for no other reason than name recognition alone.

+LiVE+ bounced back with "Birds of Pray," quality stuff, in my opinion. Let's hope OLP can, too.

And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

What's that supposed to mean? All I'm saying is that these bands choosing to present themselves on the album cover as sexy bad asses turned out to go hand in hand with making poor music, at least compared to their other stuff (albums that went with cool cover art, instead). In other words, suddently it's about appearance, and the music suffers as a result.

Me too! I have V and all the previous albums. Do you have the newest one? I'm a little hesitant to buy it after hearing V. Any comments?
