ok, i just listened to stealing babies, played live in atlanta 5/6/00.
i seriously can't believe that i didn't like this song the first time i ever heard it way back when...this live performance of it is freaking amazing, i have to say.

anyway. a few questions. the piano near the end adds something awesome to the song. is that mike eisenstein? or do they have another person doing piano?
second - why the heck don't they play this live more often? listening to this, i'm in awe...it's so damn good live..there's so much energy...and the very end of it, with the guitar freaking out, raine shreaking and 'doo doo' ing...that would be one helluva song to see played live.

ok. i'm good. i didn't even know i had this live version on my computer, and just stumbled upon it...and as i said before, i'm in absolute awe.

the guy on the piano was jaime edwards, he played keys and extra guitars for olp from happiness until the end of recording gravity at which point mike e. took over, he also filled in for mike during their last canadian tour (just for one show, vancouver i think) when mike e.'s wife was having a baby. As for stealing babies live, I don't know why they don't play it live anymore, they used to play it all the time, but then there's a lot of songs that they played all the time. I guess they just don't have room for it anymore. I think they'll probably dig it up again eventually . . . i hope . . . please.

If I had to pick a favorite OLP song, it would probably be SB (although it's a very hard choice!) I've never seen them play it live...my first OLP show was on the SM tour, so I don't know if it was out of "regular rotation" at that point, but they didn't play it.

I agree with just about everything said above...fun to play on guitar...jazz outro is awesome (probably the best ending to an album out of all of my 400 or so cds)...all the about SB...even the comment about Chantal (although I'm not sure why it was in this thread )

Is that the Music Midtown show from Atlanta? That sounds like the date. I have that show. Can't remember if SB was done or not. Jeez, i have to listen to that show again. If it is there is apart where you hear this girl say OLP F*CKING ROCKS haha. I use to know her, so I laugh when I hear it.

The coolest thing I remember about that song was when it was done live in 99, Mike would sort of have the guitar reverb( I guess that is what you call it) off the Speaker and Raine would jsut keep singing * weigh, weigh( form weigh down again). It was so cool how with Raine's voice and the guitat. Damn I miss that song live also.


Also here is a question or more of an observation I made. In the intro to Starseed(before MLK) Raine would sing * weigh down, over and over, then do something with his voice. I have to say it sounds like how he use to close SB live. I just thought of that a few weeks ago.

My assumption why they don't play Stealing Babies anymore is strictly that it wasn't a major hit, and they are playing a set consisting mostly of the 5th album, the upcoming album, and major hits from the first two. Poor Spiritual Machines gets neglected as well as songs like Stealing Babies from Happiness ... but we want OLP to grow and change, not just play rehashes of Starseed and Clumsy would we?

actually I think it has to do with what songs work well with audiences. Not just fans, but overall. I think they concentrate on current cd, plus afew new songs(if they have). Who knows they might bring back some of the songs they palyed on past tours sometime in teh future. I have afeeling we will see this song again in the future.

Still WAY/WEIGH Is in the intro. It just reminds me of how he sang SB.

I was listening to the whole Bootleg that started this thread. The 5-6-00 bootleg. GOD, I forgot I had that show. My friends went to it. Plus to hear Raine sing all of 4AM, was pretty cool.

Meh, I suppose I am jaded, but an extra intro to Starseed wouldn't keep me coming anxiously to their shows. I mean, I'd still go, but I would probably be the dick in the crowd ranting about "the good ol' days" even though I've only seen OLP once before Gravity came out, but no one there would know the difference. I just want to hear a song that comes out of nowhere like once or twice a tour.
