Why I Like OLP

Post by wanan »

Hi everyone. I've been lurking here for quite a while and after reading the "Negative" thread I got so pissed off I decided it was time to delurk. I've been a fan since Naveed. I've loved every album in different ways, (SM is my favorite), and to those who dislike Gravity, hey, every great band has at least one misstep in their careers. Being an entertainment geek as well I know the worst critics are the hardcore fans (be it comic fans, trekkies, or music fans). Either everything is done wonderfully, or nothing can ever live up to past accomplishments and things get judged before they are given a chance. Well...that was a bit of a rant but I had to get some of that off my chest. My thoughts only, everyone is entitled to their own. :) Anyway, I do have a real point to this post. To get some postive energy going in here why don't we list why we like OLP (or used to as the case may be). Here's my list. 1. they write songs I can listen to over and over and never get tired of (even Innocent in my case), 2. they work hard. There aren't many bands who tour nonstop for years on end while at the same time putting out new albums more frequently than most bands, 3. they never disappoint me in concert, 4. I love the sound of Raine's voice and how he uses it as another instrument, 5. Raine is hot...sorry couldn't resist.

Anyway, let's here some of you guy's reasons!

Yay! Winnipeggers![/spam]

Why I <3 old OLP:
1. Raine's voice. Fucking awesome.
2. The creativity. Holy crap.
3. The way the music touched me. Each song has meaning for me.
4. Mike's guitar playing. It was artistic. Don't get me wromg...Steve rocks my pants, but he (Mike) was more OLP-ish. N/m...
5. Each time I listen to old OLP I hear something new in it.

Why I hate the new OLP stuff:
1. Uncreative, musically and lyrically
2. They're trying to be a "rock" band. Since when are they "rock"?
3. They're trying to be kick ass. Look at Raine on the cover of Gravity. Ugh.

I uno. That's all I can remember right now...

woooo my moms from Boissevain! good to see more 'tobans around, as for my negative views, i don't hate olp, i love them, i'm just being very critical of gravity i have a huge post up explaining it
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

I think the kick ass thing lost its way when the somewhere out there video came out. Raine may as well have done a few dance moves.

Forget tights, he should just perform with only a sock on like flea. :D

Well, I think I've managed to take my post completely off topic already.

 Okay, let's get back on topic, you guys...

The main reason I like OLP is because they make songs that relate to a lot of people and to society and this is regardless of whether they make simple or more complex songs. I mean, after hearing the same old pop songs that kept talking about crushes and materialism, I was blown away by how much "Life" related to me despite the fact that it's extremely simple.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

I guess it's the fact there's actually something to talk about now. :)

I'd actually just like some respect, thank you, since I can't get it in real life. :P

Some gifts and stuff would be nice though. Maybe some bowing and worsjipping me too.
