No more smoking in New York State
No more smoking in New York State
As of July 24, 2003 there is no smoking allowed in any place of employment (restaurants, bars, offices, pool halls, bowling allies, etc, etc) in New York State. At first I didn't like this idea because people who smoke need somewhere they can go and hang out. Now they can only smoke at home or outside. Poor bastards. I have to admit, it was nice coming home from the bar and not smelling like smoke.

So how long is it until someone hires Johnny Cochran and sues for discrimination against smokers?
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

this law is bullshit. any of you who support it, i would like a justification as to why you feel you have the "right" to go to any private establishment and not be "bothered" by secondhand smoke?
because, get this, you don't. you don't have the right to tell the owner of any private establishment what they can or cannot permit on their own fucking property.
i cannot believe the nerve of the state and those who support it. this is really unreal.

they did this in nassau county (in new york) and it lasted two weeks before it was done away with it. Now the whole state has the law i dont think the same will happen. I am not a fan of smoking but it isnt really fair in my opinion. Resturants have smoking sections and if you are going to a bar you should expect people to be smoking there. More public places such as bowling alleys makes sense but not bars and smoking areas of resturants.

no force involved.
They have no control over how much smoke they inhale. I may want to be a bartender, but that doesn't mean I want to inhale smoke.
PS - I'm not defending the law, I'm merely trying to discuss the motives behind it. That doesn't mean I agree with all of them.

Edmonton has that as well. AND it is quite nice having clean air to breathe at a bar and restaurants and such.

yes, but if you decide to be a bartender, you must accept all the risks/discomforts invovled. i may want the army to pay for my college by i don't want to get shot and killed by iraqi guerrillas.
