as long as a prayer is not led, i.e. like someone reciting something from the bible over a loudspeaker before a football game.

sweet blasphemy my giving tree
it hasn't rained in years
i bring to you this sacrificial offering of virgin ears
leave it to me i remain free from all the comforts of home
and where that is i'm pleased as piss to say
i'll never really know

I just think it's inappropriate. People should of course be able to pray quietly to themselves, but doing that is ousting the people of no religion or different religion. Are you going to have speakers from every other religion come up and speak?

religion is just another human creation, a society within society, so to speak. it's got nothing to do with God, and just promotes suffering. belief is a personal matter, imo.
the problem is, people want to tell others about their beliefs. Corey's right that people are allowed to do this, and most people will feel that they betray their beliefs if they don't, but the problem comes when people disagree. it'd be fine if people could disagree peacefully and go about their lives however they personally see fit, but people don't do that. if someone's "belief" is that another person is scum for so and so reasons, conflict will result.
people should just take their theistic views with a healthy dose of humility, I think.

Just because I am sexy, naked, a bassist, and sporting a top hat doesn't make me Duncan Coutts!

Yeah, continued from that other thread...
Atheism is hard to define because it's very vague. There's no set of rules or any form of structure. That's probably also why people rarely criticize it; there's not much to criticize.
A lot of people who claim to be atheist are actually agnostic [def:
a) One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
b) One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism].
I'm atheist though.
