Yet another problem that I need some help with...
Okay, new problem, and I need your help on this one...
My dad wants me to drive to Toronto, for the 401 experience and whatnot. And I'm okay with that, I don't mind driving, except for one thing. One simple request...
I asked to listen to my music while I'm driving (hoping to listen to the Live CD). Because driving down a straight highway at a semi-constant speed can get a little boring, and I wanted something to listen to that wouldn't drive me mad (ie not Country and Pop).
My mom's answer: No. We don't like your music, and you have to concentrate on the road.
My dad's answer (when asked separately): No. I don't like your music.
Is this too much to ask? I mean, when they're driving, we listen to their music. When I'm driving with them in the car, we listen to their music.
I just don't want to drive for that long, with nothing to do but listen to their crap.
I'm considering just saying "If I can't listen to my music, I won't bother driving at all."
I know this all sounds pretty trivial, but it goes beyond this. I'm constantly treated like a 5 year old, who's thoughts and opinions can be cast aside with a simple "no". I'm sick of it, and this is the last straw. I'm not giving up on this one. I mean, I just want to listen to something that will keep me from going insane with boredom while driving. Sure, it's okay for them to demand their music while driving, but since I'm younger my requests obviously don't matter.
Any ideas on how I can convince them to let me listen to my music while I drive?

Personal CD player, my friend. The answer to all your problems. Well, not all of them ... but the first one. That, of course, depends on if it comes to that. I'm sure you could work something out with your parents.

Ah, yes. I didn't think you would overlook that prospect, and wondered why you hadn't thought of it. You're smarter then that. But yea, you need to at least work out some sort of schedule or something along those lines.
Unless you can crack them. I mean, my parents usually give in quite quickly. They always tell me that when I drive I can listen to my own music.
(oh yea, and on a side note, I am going for my G1 in a couple days. Was is that hard?)

I think you should take the ultimatim option. If it means that much to your dad, he'll give in and let you listen to it, even if your parents don't like it.
If they won't let you do it, learn how to turn the stereo off. Everytime they go to turn it on, turn it off and say "It will be a distraction to me" just to throw it back in their face. They'll either sit in silence or lose their minds and let you listen to anything you want.

I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

it stresses the crap out of me having to listen to some of what my dad likes when i'm driving. It probably hinders my ability to concentrate on the road, and i dont think i could take it for that long.
so yeah, if you cant get you're way or at least get your music played for a large part of the trip go for the ultimatum. I've considered saying the same thing before, but i've never had to sit through it for nearly that long, so its hasn't been a big problem.

blah
maybe you could work out some sort of compromise. you listen to your music for a half hour, your parents listen to theirs for half hour, and so on.

sweet blasphemy my giving tree
it hasn't rained in years
i bring to you this sacrificial offering of virgin ears
leave it to me i remain free from all the comforts of home
and where that is i'm pleased as piss to say
i'll never really know

just rub it for a few seconds. it'll get bigger.
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.
