Song Meanings
I'm really sorry if this make me sound like a dumbass but can somebody tell me the meanings of julia and stealing babies
i think julia is about a guy who has to give up his child for a night
i think that stealing babies is somebody talking to god

Stealing Babies was written about a little girl that died of aids .. I think .. I know Chantal wrote a song about the same girl .. her song is called Eve.
Yeah I found this on it:
"Raine was watching a show on TV called "All About Eve". It was about a six year old girl who, on her ninth blood transfusion, contracted AIDS. Eve spent her next three years travelling around the world to speak to and comfort other children who also had AIDS."

hey dan
i think the way the song is written about how raine is confused and upset that god took someone so young. he is talking about how brave this little girl is and how she had so much to live for, and even though he would be terrified going through what she has, she is calm and ready.
so its god thats 'stealing babies'
just my opinion

I always felt SB was from the parents point of view. How the Mom was questioning how GOD could take her baby at such a young age etc and how the family loses faith in GOD because of it.I know the what inspired the song, but what it actually means is up to anyone's interperataion. You guys know Raine. He rarely talks about what his lyrics mean leaving it open for the listeners own interpataion of the songs.
I'm teething on answers you're saving
How you gonna make me sleep again
Well I'm dreaming your stealing babies
When you gonna make me understand, why
How should I say "I'm so sorry"
How should I pray to know that we're alive
Here I think the parent is questioning ho wGOD can make them understand why Their child is sick and dying. They feel numb and dead becuase of it.
You're leaving pieces of family
How you gonna help them understand
Oh I'm screaming you're stealing babies
Why you want to knock us down again why
How should I say "I'm so sorry"
How should we pray to make us feel alive...
once again question how you can let a family be torn apart by all of this. how in all your wisdon can you helpo them understand why this is happening to them.
It must be our egos
It must be my lack
Of faith that it might not come back
losing faith over what has happen to their child. If any of you ever lost a parent, child, brother or sister etc. You always question GOD as to why it happened-especially if it is a terminal illness. YOu also do losea bit of faith there.
Eve stands alone
By the knock on the door
By the thin in her bones
She's courageous and loving
Exhausted and cold
She's not ready to go
So the ghost on the phone
Helps her safely into her dream
even thought she is sick she goes on with her life till her body can no longer go on. Finally she has peace and is no longer in pain
that is my interp anyway. Everyone has different interps to the songs.

Isn't that the one about that religous guy .. I can't remember his name
I have the song where he talks about him (benny something?) before the song.

btw, Fabio_kun, your website is grade-A! Awesome design!
Thanks

It used to be quite famous among OLP fans back when Spiritual Machines was released. I stopped working on it... but I still leave all it's content online

Cheers.
Yeah I just listened to the song .. Lying Awake is about Benny Hinn .. Raine calls him a greedy thief that tries to con people through religion, and it's apparently about the day he's about to die, and looking through his eyes .. if he really believes all the crap he told everyone else.

ya Happiness had the most in depth lyrics. It was great. I mean with SM everything was about the same topic so it was pretty easy to interpret
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.
"It's a great thing when you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself. Makes you wonder what else you can do that you've forgotten about"

tee hee fabio, at one point in your little banner thing in your sig it looks like a dog
anyway, on the christian thing....when someone you love dies or becomes very ill, you tend to misplace your greif with anger and lash out at anyone that tries to come close to you. you cant believe what has happened and are looking for answers. if you can't find them, it becomes easier just to blame someone you are close to. you know how 'god works in mysterious ways'? well, sometimes its hard to see what good can come from the pain. if you are really upset with something, you tend to be angry with what seems to have caused the pain, even if that means hurting someone you love. you dont mean to, it is just a natural reaction. you still love them just as much. thus is the relationship with god.
i dont know exactly, because im not christian, but im trying to relate it to my life.
EDIT: still, nobody has answered dan's question about julia.

I always took Julia to be about a girl who is stuck in a life of prostitution.
"She's only yours tonight"
She wants to get out of it, but she can't, so she just bears through it. She doesn't want to go to help from her mother. Perhaps her mother has disowned her daughter. So:
"Oh, she never cries
'Mother'"
But, of course, we know there's hurt inside this Julia.
"Can you see her standing there?
Well, she's trying to find just anywhere"
She's trying to find somewhere to go, someone to go to, but can't find anyone.
"Drowning in her own visions,
Well she's begging the past to stay behind"
She's trying to put her past behind her, but she can't.
"There's a black cat in the night
There's a black cat in that sky"
The black cat could represent just about anything. Maybe the "Joe", her only source for money and, therefore, the only way she knows to earn a living and stay alive.
