Oh. Didn't see this one. Huh.

Anyway. It's $5.99 at Best Buy, so you really can't go wrong.

it's way more musically advanced the musicforthemorning after. he keeps the grassroots pop/rock vocal style and melody but he brings in a tonne more sounds on all the songs.
it's more along the vein of the stuff that he released after that album, like undercover and hunter green.
total 5 star album anyways. it's amazing.

i am currently listening to the album after reading a really bad review in the newspaper.
Rollingstone only gave it 2 stars.
I have no idea here. I think it's great. Some people.
Of course, rollingstone has given limp bizket 4 star reviews before, so their review system is obviously flawed.

After a few more listenings, I'm going to have to agree.
I don't consider this a step back, but I also can't really say what direction it goes in. A bit of experimentation, and I get the feeling that Yorn's trying to stretch out a bit, but overall the album doesn't work with me like I hoped it would, nor does it work with me like MMFA did.

actually right now i like a few songs a lot...the words are so simple and can be applied in every day life. I guess that is why i liked MFTMA so much but Lose You is still by far my favorite song. On this album "all at once", "turn of the century", "long way down" are my favorites

The amount of hype is a good judgement over how well of a rating a cd will get from Rolling Stone. You have to have an amazing, cutting edge album, and have a lot of "buzz" surrounding the album before the Rolling Stone will give it a good rating.
The past 3 bands to get 5 stars is Beck, Bruce Springsteen, and the White Stripes. The first two hit it big before and came out with something that would be considered a masterpiece. The other one is bringing back an old form of music, garage rock, and mixing it with another form of music, blues. Therefore, they are different and get a good rating.
There's nothing outstandingly different about Pete Yorn. Therefore, Rolling Stone shits on it.
They did give Bright Eyes 4 stars for Fevers and Mirrors, and Alkaline Trio 3.5 for From Here To Infirmary, and those bands really don't fit my explanation. Conor from Bright Eyes is an amazing songwriter, so he got a great review, and Alkaline Trio....I guess they just made a damn good indie-rock/punk/emo/pop cd.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
Well, Bright Eyes was also one of their "Artists to watch!" right before that album came out, so giving it a bad review woulda been dumb.
In general, I only go to RS to laugh at the one-star's. Like HED PE. And ever since they've put up their little comments section next to the reviews, it's only gotten better.

i am the opposite of you guys. the more i listen to it, the more i like it.
the only thing i really don't like about the album is that all the songs are so short. except for the last couple, it's all like, 3:30 a track.
i think this album has a few songs on it which are better then any of the songs on musicforthemorningafter, but i think that album may have been slightly better overall.
regardless, i really like the disc.
