Are we really all that different?

Here is a nice study that compares the US and Canada side-by-side.

http://www.unitednorthamerica.org/simdiff.htm

It is fairly unbiased and really shows you how much the US and Canada really are the same. I would suggest to all of you to poke around the site.

The Pros and Cons of the US and Canada is also a good section.

You'll see when you look around some more that the author of the site believes that the United States and Canada should unite. I'm not sure what my feelings are on THAT but he makes some good points. And before you think "Oh another American asshole that thinks he can push us Canadians around and join his cult!", I'd like to point out the author of the site is a Canadian, born and raised.

Oh, and this question took me 2 tries to get it right:

^ LOL I love it!!! You guys are so hypocritical! Corey finds 2 sites that show Canada being extremely similar to the US and you pretty much tell him he has no life, but Doug and co. post links 10 times a day and you praise his efforts in "discovering the truth". Your hypocritical attitudes and stupidity amuse me.

Do i say praise doug? No. Am i attacking Corey? No. Do i find what he posted interesting. Yes. Do i still think he's researched a lot about Canada/USA. Yes. Calling someone a hypocrite when their not is hypocritical in itself.

If I make blind posts about Canada, I'm ignorant. If I try and understand Canada I have too much time on my hands. I find that interesting. Give me a reason not to be ignorant with such reactions?

Honestly Corey i thought it was great that you were trying to understand Canada. Most people would never bother. I just found it a little odd that you went to so much trouble when so many people wouldnt. If your last comment wasnt directed to me, than my mistake, but i honestly didnt mean to offend you with my first post.

not so much you but Johnathan. He has directed more than one post of this nature to me.

And as for free time. I have none. I work over 40 hours a week and an engineering consulting company as a software engineer. I spend 10-20 hours a week doing work for classes at RIT. I have a live-in gf who occupies another 50% of my time. With what little time I have left, I have a hunger to know more about the world around me.

Now tell me Johnathan... what is so important that you do with YOUR time?

Hey dude. No need to take an offensive. It was just a comment. so dont take it to heart.

Since I do not go to College/University. I do not have the burdens of exams and studying either.

As for the time I have, I'm trying to get my business up and running, getting money, suppliers etc.Its rather difficult to tell you the truth. Which takes up tons of time. Then I work a tedious job that I hate, but its easy and I need the money(which is not so bad)

I like the fact that Corey does his research. It's better than just throwing opinions out there for everyone to see when they have no value behind them.

If anything at least when he does talk it's not useless babble. Sure we debate it but thats politics for ya and the more you know and the more you can back it up the better.

I don't think he ahs too much time on his hands as I try and do the same as him and further educate myself.

As for the Canada/US similarities, I feel it's only skin deep. The history and heritage of Canada is a lot different than the US and their heritage and history.

Having family on both sides of the border its really interesting when you can see the difference first hand. it's somewhat like night and day really, we just see things differently.
I hope we never become one giant country. Canadians would realize that they won't have a better life and that things that we took for granted for the last 135 years will become difficult. And being Canadian I have to much pride in my country and really wouldn't know what to do if that ever happened.

I think it would be tougher to govern though. According to other threads in here Canada already has trouble with east/west politics... how the hell do you govern from the islands all the way up to the north pole all the way down to Florida? That I would think would be damn near impossible, and would be a poor choice.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Agreed. I don't think unity is a very good idea. Canada needs to stay intact the way it is. I would hate to see that deteriate. However, I do believe that we could make the relations between the US and Canada even stronger. We need to have a general appreciation for eachother. It would be nice if Canada didn't see the US and a big asshole bully and the US didn't see Canada as a bastard red-headed step child.
