OLP and political statements

Post by Thè ßỉr&#27 »

How do you guys feel about OLP making political statements on stage, personally I dont really like it, although they have the right to as free willed people, I think it puts fans in an akward position especially if you dont agree with what they're saying...

Thanks,
Marc

i second that!

i bet he'd at least mean what he said when he made huge, internationally televised speeches.

you have to realize that a lot of what he's saying is based on his recent trip to Iraq with Chantal...so he obviously doesnt want any war to take place

Raine definitely knows what he's talkin' about. He's always been against the war. I expect to see OLP perform "Imagine" to encourage people to be against the WAR!

I think that he can make statements about whatever he wants, we can ALL do that. But you don't necessarily have to agree with everything he says. It may make you feel weird or whatever, but everyone has their own opinions and are entitled to express them.

I'd like them less if they didn't express political opinions. The fact that they are knowledgeable about world affairs and can discuss them intelligently and without being afraid to state their feelings is what separates OLP, and other celebrities like them, from the stars who are just pretty faces.

Even if I don't always agree with them, I always respect them.

ya I think OLP has always been an intelligent band, and their opinions are valued. Artists can sway a lot of topics in the proper direction, look at Bono and everything he's done for AIDS in Africa... didn't Bush the other night say they were increasing funds to help AIDS victims in Africa? I'm pretty sure Bono had something to do with that.

Now I'm not saying Raine is Bono, but he still can pull his weight when it comes to topics of public interest

I think it's great that he's expressing his views on stage. I'm sure he's not saying that anyone *needs* to agree with him, although he may be encouraging it. Afterall, any song with lyrics (and you could even argue that those without) express views be them political, personal, emotional, or whatever.

i encourage it. as a fan, or whatever, it's nice to know there's deeper thoughts behind the person who writes the lyrics.

He should definiteley say his opinions. As long as OLP doesn't turn into a band based soley on politics, it's great.I don't think the direction of old school punk is really Raine, though. Maybe Mike...

I'm rambling. Shoot me.

I think we ought to go to war. If we don't get rid of all these terrorists and people causing mass amount of trouble then we're just waiting for September 11th to happen again, and again. We shouldn't have to lose more thousands of people before we start to do something about the people. Saddam has weapons that could kill everyone in bomb. We have them too, but we won't use them. Saddam kills his own people. He deserves to be killed.

well the question wasn't "should we go to war" and thats a whole other debate. I think Raine was speaking on behalf of the Canadian POV. Most Canadians don't see this as a war against terrorism and I think since Raine has been to Iraq, he's seen what the population puts up with day in and day out, and he probably feels that them being bombed isn't gonna help matters.

Off topic, but my mom said something unintentionally horrible a while ago.

She came in and told me the space shuttle had blown up, and then said "There was an Isreali on board. I don't know if that has anything to do with it."
