Queen of the Air by Everclear

Post by finding emo »

Am I the only person who thinks this song is awesome? It tells a really freaky story.

For those of you who haven't heard it, here are the lyrics.

there is a dream I used to have
my dream swallowed me whole
there is a bridge where I hate to go
that is where I first saw her
high on the bridge
I seen her red hair shining

there is a girl- I never knew
she was my aunt virginia
they said that she-
she just disappeared
they said I look just like her

high on the bridge I seen her
dancing, waving to me there
she smiled and raised her head
then she took to the air

there is a dream I can't escape
my memories come back to me
there is a hell I can't escape
my memories come back to me

I heard the truth about it
pictures and headlines hidden away
I heard the truth about my real mom
jumping from the bridge that day

now I know why ever since
I was 3 years old
been having the same nightmare
now I know the truth about virginia
why she took to the air

I love that song... it's probably the freakiest song I know.

Art has a way with words. His songwriting is the best that there is. Such a messed up life turned into amazing songs. I love it.

wow. i've never heard the song before but I love the lyrics. i saw everclear live way back when they opened up for olp in toronto and they weren't very good .. could barely hear his singing over their instruments so the sound wasn't set up properly i guess, i dunno .. I have their first 2 cds though

the lyrics are good to the music...
just pop in Sparkle and Fade and hit track ten and give it another try...
you probably just missed it.

From a retrospective point of view.....Everclear has currently died like Art's hair haha. Sorry, that wasn't funny.

Everclear kicks ass....I hope their next cd has more of their old style upbeat, make ya wanna jump around, type stuff. Eh....Wonderful was a good song but it made me depressed.

I loved the two new albums, more so Vol.1 than 2, but 2 continues to grow on me. I think Vol.1 is Art's lyrical peak, and I guess I just like sad, depressing songs hehe, cuz I love them all. Vol.2 was more jump aroundish, I'm surprised you didnt like that one as much as the older stuff.

dude.

vol 2 tracks 7-12 are art's best lyrics (save for halloween americana).

one of the best half an album's EVA
we are the brand new beatniks. we are the down and outers.
we are the bleeding hearts, beating syncopated, broken rhythm.
our speed is often break neck. we need to slow it down.
tired of being sleepless. tired of being broken.

Hmmm some of them are awesome (Overwhelming, Good Witch..., and the last track), but overall, I'm more partial to Vol.1 - it just speaks to me :P

My favorite song off of Sparkle and Fade is 'Strawberry' other than that song and 1-2 others I don't listen to it anymore .. I haven't touched So Much for the Afterglow in years
