30 SECONDS TO MARS

Post by starvingeyes »

dudes and dudettes.

i know there has already been gobs upon gobs of discussion about 30STM, but as the most pretentious member of the CM i thought i'd better weigh in.

i got the record on Friday. I saw the show on Saturday.

holy. fucking. shit.

i know i review alot of good and mostly obscure records on here, but honestly, these guys are second only to pete yorn. this is the. best. record that has been released in 2002. this band is beyond incredible.

GET IT NOW. and go see them perform, for chrissakes.

I wasn't blown away by their cd. I listened to the cd straight through and I liked it, but there is other stuff I like better. Not bad, but not great.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I'm with primetimefool on this one. Someone introduced to their music about a month or two ago, and I was blown away. It's sort of sad that a lot of people are going to write them off as a vanity project for a pretty boy celebrity who thinks he can sing.

Jared Leto is actually talented, and deserves to be recognized for it.

the best album of 2002 is foo fighters - one by one. no album even comes close.
"Sh*t, id be f*ckin' scared if us were opening for...us"
-Dave Grohl on why the Red Hot Chili Peppers only let the Foos play a 45 minute set when they toured together

"baby, i wish you were my baby,
ill make u make a baby,
let's make electric power,
in fear u should not cower,
cuz girl i will protect u,
i promise not to sex u,
and IiiiiIiiiiIiiiiiiIiiiiiIiiiiii...." - Dudez a Plenti

"all by myself
cause I don’t want to drag you down, hold you down
cause you’re a friend
i blame myself
i guess you think it’s funny now, funny now
it's such a shame..."
-Feeder - Just a Day

Leto is extremely talented. The record's only been out for a month and he's already been compared to John Lennon and Bono. A reviewer for the All Music Guide said that this was the best album man has recorded since we set foot on the moon.

i'm almost inclined to agree. i haven't been this excited about a CD since spiritual machines. and their live show is fucking incredible too.

holy. shit. indeed.

I downloaded a bunch of their stuff off the net after reading this thread and it is absolutely mind blowing. Oblivion especially rocks my socks.

i like all of the songs a whole fucking bunch, but the best ones are probably

1. oblivion
2. 93 million miles
3. capricorn

buddha for mary was by far the coolest song live. Jared came off stage and joined the mosh pit. oblivion was a close second. he spun round in circles while singing the first verse. high energy show.

"30 Seconds to Mars amassed quite a tsunami of industry buzz well before they had finished recording their self-titled debut, and for good reason. Their debut album is a cataclysmic car crash of progressive rock experimentation that draws on influences as far ranging as Pink Floyd, Rush, and Brian Eno. Keenly piecing together an intergalactic tapestry that harbors elements of industrial, prog rock, and modern alternative, 30 Seconds to Mars ventures well beyond the average boundaries other rock acts choose to limit themselves to. In doing so, these men have taken a daring new step in musical evolution, leaving vast corridors of sound open for the listener to meander down at will. Vocally, 30 Seconds to Mars proceeds to uncover new avenues of melody that such legendary singers as Bono and John Lennon surely helped inspire, yet the passion and heart that radiate from every miniscule whisper or gut-wrenching wail are breathtaking. These mesmerizing vocals are accompanied by some of the most awe-inspiring feats of musical expression captured on record since humans set foot on the moon. Lyrically, 30 Seconds to Mars escapes from the doldrums of introverted self-pity that are common for the modern rock landscape and instead offers an intriguing portrait of a futuristic existence. These space-age themes compliment the group's advanced musical achievements wonderfully. 30 Seconds to Mars has managed to record an album that breathes life into the empty shell that corporate rock has become, and in reanimating an avenue of musical expression that has for many years been on its deathbed, has quite possibly offered the single best rock experience of 2002. ~ Jason D. Taylor, All Music Guide "

how i feel exactly. i can't believe everyone does not love this album. it is seriously among the best records that i personally own, and likely ever will.

and i thought they were fantastic live. i haven't seen a show that good in 2 years, at least.

I bought the album and I must agree with you... every song sounds the same.... And I did see them opening for I Mother Earth a couple weeks back.. their show was ok... but it was too predictable...

I Mother Earth totally stole the show.... they showed 30stm how a rock show is supposed to be done ;)
