Lowlands Festival

Post by Eelco »

I just got back from Holland`s biggest music festival, Lowlands. I'm exhausted, my clothes are covered in mud and my ears are about to burst, but it was fantastic. Here are some of the best and worst bands that I saw.

BEST:
Danko Jones, they're awesome, especially live, they did a double encore and the crowd was still screaming for more, but unfortunately the drum kit hadn't survived all the rock and roll.

Incubus, only because they're one of my favorite bands, they didn't play astonishingly well and the audio system on that stage was very crappy.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, not much blues, but a lot of explosion, great music, lot sof energy, especially when Jon smashed the microphone and threw a box of the stage.

Hawksley Workman, first he played on a big stage, which was great, than he played on a small stage which was even more amazing. I was on the front row, about five feet away from him. Too bad hsi guitar brok down, but he still did four of five amazing songs and I got his autograph afterwards. He even drew a (childish) picture of his house.

WORST:
Nickelback, They played How U Remind Me five times! And the sound was all crappy too.

A, I'm not even going to try to describe how terrible they were.

Custom, I had expected a lot more from him.

Other bands we saw: Zornik (good band from Belgium, kind of like Muse), Silkstone (great Dutch band), Jaya the Cat (funny), BRMC (solid), Rival Schools (not bad at all), Flogging Molly (Irish folk rock), Cooper Temple Clause (good), Jagga Jazzist (very cool way to start a day). Dimmu Borgir. Motorpsycho and Peter Pan Speedrock (and probably some more).

To each their own, I thought Danko Jones was great, but I can imagine people not liking them, although I didn't see any around me at the festival. They're really a live band, the album isn't that great, but they put on a good show.

Silkstone has released two singles now in Holland, Ready and Rain Has Come. I could send you Ready, they're probably also both on kazaa or similar programs.

Or click here to listen to their performance at Lowlands.

Cooper Temple Clause rule.

I saw Muse on Saturday at Reading and they played two new songs ("The Smallprint" and something else) which I am desperately trying to download. They should have a new album out next year.

"Sh*t, id be f*ckin' scared if us were opening for...us"
-Dave Grohl on why the Red Hot Chili Peppers only let the Foos play a 45 minute set when they toured together

"baby, i wish you were my baby,
ill make u make a baby,
let's make electric power,
in fear u should not cower,
cuz girl i will protect u,
i promise not to sex u,
and IiiiiIiiiiIiiiiiiIiiiiiIiiiiii...." - Dudez a Plenti

"all by myself
cause I don’t want to drag you down, hold you down
cause you’re a friend
i blame myself
i guess you think it’s funny now, funny now
it's such a shame..."
-Feeder - Just a Day

I am still awesome.........................................................................................seriously.

Wait. The same song 5 times?!? WTF?

Damn, I wish I was there. I would have thrown a bottle at Chad's head. That seems to work when you want him off the stage.

And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

That's probably the reason why they don't allow you to take bottles to the festival. Anyway I was too far away from the stage to get a good hit. Worst thing about it was that the majority of the crowd didn't even care that they played the same songs over and over, they actually liked the show.

That sounds a lot like Andrew WK at Reading, except he was playing different songs that just sounded the same. He got hit by a few plastic bottles!
