Why does OLP get no mention at all at the Junos?

Post by Flynner »

Just wondering what people think, because I really wonder why they get no love from them.

They still have the most Juno Awards ever awarded to any band... and I agree, they're being completely snubbed... I think Barenaked Ladies and Tea Party and whoever else are still mentioned/invited now and then... but never OLP.

Because they don't have a major label buying their awards for them anymore. It's all a gimmick.

Umm, wouldn't they ignore any band that hadn't released new music in nearly 3 years?

I've never understood "relevance" in terms of music. You mean they've become less popular?

WHAT? YOu mean OLP are not the hip young happening band of the moment. I am SHOCK I tell you..

Those shows are so stupid anyway. I love music but the grammys are painful to watch.. All a popularity contest on who sold the most cd's that year. WHo had the most airplay etc. How many of those cd's stand the test of time. Do not get me wrong there are some songs, bands, cd;'s that deserve teh award. Usually just a giant popularity contest if you ask me.

The Grammys being like the JUNOS.

But don't bands get called "irrelevant" even on their debut album when a critic doesn't like their style? It's just nonsense to me.

Yeah but the hip are still being nominated, I didn't mind,"we are the same", but Burn Burn was much better, in my opinion.

Not really from what I've seen. I've just seen irrelevent used for bands that aren't really on top anymore.. when the masses go from loving them to not really caring.

The Junos aren't relevant. There are plenty of "relevant" Canadian bands that receive zero recognition at the Junos every year.

The Juno's are a joke. They ignore the entire hip hop scene and the entire rock scene. In fact, they basically don't give a shit about any kind of relevant music. They seem to show off the same old tired musicians, and put them next to whatever young musicians much music is pumping out at the time. That pleases no one. Fuck the Juno's, they aren't worth shit.

Also, I understand why you would question what makes a band relevant, but its not really what the critics think. It has to do with being connected to current trends. It's showing ideas that have a significant impact on music at hand. (Or on any field, I suppose)

I don't think it's too controversial to say that OLP hasn't broken any new ground lately.

Why would they talk about OLP when Beyonce had one of the best videos of ALL time?
