It's a good choice for a single... I don't particuarly like the song, but it's poppy enough to get a buzz going about the album for radio-rock fanboys. As for hardcore music listeners, it will turn them away from the album. It just irks me that this will be one of the songs they'll be known for. Damn it.

I probably should have posted this here

I don't really like the song, but whatever, it's catchy enough to have decent play on the radio... I just don't want the rest of the album to sound like this D:

Wait, so... the video's gonna be animated? I didn't watch any of the full videos, but watched a little bit of each. I like the style. This could be cool.

Absolutely.

"So, you like that Our Lady Peace band?"
"Oh, I love them."
"Don't they sing 'the Right Stuff' or something like that?"
"No... well, yes. Damn."

It feels like all of their "cool old stuff" will lose credibility because they're the band that's releasing new stuff like this.

Meh. Nobody ever knows who OLP is when I mention them anyway, so I don't really care. Even if this sucks, as long as I can still listen to everything they've already released, I'm a happy fan. :)

I admire your optimism.

My ckassmates know OLP as "the band that sings 'Innocent.' They know Raine as (attempted quote), "The guy that sings that really gay song? Like, I remember the days when we talked for hours one? Oh, he sucks! I HATE that song! He's gay!"

I admit, though, I listen to The Right Stuff a LOT. As much as its cheesiness makes me sheepish, I can't get it out of my head and I love singing along to it.

Oh dear god, can't they at least change their band name to like "Our Gentlemen Peace" for this single so as not to tarnish their image?

If any of my friends hear this they'll laugh at me for being a hardcore obsessive OLP fan. I'm sorry but there's absolutely nothing I like about that song. It's not even catchy to me. I don't even think radio-rock junkies will like it... and certainly OLP fans won't... err I mean OGP fans...

I don't think their old stuff will ever really lose credibility. If anything, continuing to release mediocre music will probably just continue to glorify the 4 first records. After all, what's a music snob's favourite line? "Yeah, I used to really be into them but not so much anymore.. Have you heard anything off their first record/EP/whatever?". I'm excited for this video, though. Especially if it's animated. As for the song, this will be the final blow for most people. Sorry OLP, 3 strikes, you're out.

So sad. But I think this new type of "music" has a lot to do with Raine's voice being no longer able to perform the intricate songs they used to write. I consider myself a decent vocalist, and I can mimic Raine's (old) voice to an extent, but after 5 songs I can't talk anymore.

It's so sad to go on YouTube and look at some 2006 live performances, and then see people commenting "it's gonna be okay! Wikipedia says their new album will be like Naveed again  "..... no

Oh well. On a brighter note, I just realized that this is the same animation group that was behind the video for Arcade Fire's 'Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)'. That video was freaking cool.

edit: I suppose the irony there is that when you begin to establish connections between 'Power Out', 'The Right Stuff', and the animation group itself, you quickly remember that the title of that Arcade Fire album was 'Funeral'. How appropriate.

Let me put it this way

The Right stuff is less lame than Innocent/Somewhere out there/Where are you?

Its cheesy yes, catchy yes, but its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I'll wait until the studio version though, because knowing raine its probably going to have parts where his kids are playing the tamborine or some shit.

Remember guys, they do need a song thats going to push cds, The Right stuff sounds like it could potentially do that. After thats released, send out a kick ass song to make up for it lol.

Nothing can be bad as Where Are You?

Worst song ever.

The original versions were so much better.

I think I have to agree with Teedus. I'd actually venture to say that I'd rather listen to Made Of Steel - on repeat - than have to hear The Right Stuff in heavy rotation.

It's not out yet, it's just been made. Hopefully we'll see it soon, though. :)

Who gives a fuck what your friends think? If you're that concerned about what they think of your musical taste, you need new friends. Or grow a pair...

That wasn't meant to be insulting, I'm just sayin', like the music you like, and fuck your friends if they laugh at you for it. Their opinion means fuck-all nothing. Honestly, I don't give a shit what my friends think of my musical taste. I love OLP, even if they put out shitty singles. The albums tend to make up for it, for me anyway.

And I don't think Raine is incapable of hitting those notes as you guys seem to think. I don't know where the heck that came from. Things have just changed for them. God, it's like they're not allowed to change their sound for fear of upsetting us all.

But you all know how I feel about it, and I know how you all feel about it, and this argument is getting really fucking OLD.
