I just won an all expenses paid trip to Toronto the first week of December.

Only catch is I have to replace and install some server equipment for the warehouse I support up there. But should be cake work.

UCMHMU anyone?

I need to check out the mass transit system.
See if theres a train or subway that goes from their airport into downtown.

Well this TTC business is looking pretty easy so far.

Take the 'Rocket' bus from the Airport to Kipling Station then take the subway on into downtown.

Weekly pass is like $30

Should save me the agrivation of getting stuck on Younge St. again at the least.

You could always just get CAD out of an ATM when you get there, then try to spend it all before returning to the US.

Bring (or get, rather) change for the bus though, you can't buy a weekly pass at the airport (as far as I know)

So if I decide to get adverturous are there any nasty areas of Toronto I should avoid?

I've been around some different areas west of Younge but not much on the other side.

It's not like the proverbial 'Crossing the tracks' is it?

First, it's Yonge

Really, there's no reason to go east of Yonge unless you want to hit the church/Wellesley village (my guess is you don't swing that way) or St Lawrence (which is just east of Union station on Front St.). Some shady streets like Jarvis, Sherbourne and Parliament should probably be avoided between Queen and Bloor, but you really have no reason to venture that far east anyways. Not that it's that dangerous. Just some of the seedier areas.

If you're looking for some decent bars/restaurants go to the west of the intersection of Bloor/Spadina. If you're looking to catch a show I'd look here: http://www.eyeweekly.com/music/musicchart there's a list of every venue in the city and who is playing where and when.

i don't know anything beyond what you've said here, so I can't be of much more help...
