"Innocent" on American Idol

Post by myownsatellite »

Well, I hate the song "Innocent" and I wish that David Cook had picked a different OLP song to sing, since he professed OLP to be his favorite band and all...

I think he butchered it.

Anyone else see it? I really thought it sucked.

it's awesome that it was on american idol instead of canadian idol, though

I think that if he loves OLP so much he could have (a) picked a better song of theirs to do and (b) at least sung the damn thing better than he did. I know it was supposed to be a "what inspires you" kind of night, but if he's going to sing a song from his "favorite" band, he could at least do it justice, even if it is a crappy song.

i personally dont mind innocent (for personal reasons) but having heard Raine sing it so many times on his solo tour and busking in toronto ( 20 minutes straight in an underground concourse) I was really sadly disappointed by D Cooks attempt. To this point he has done some great versions of songs and he really could have switched it up. Those first few notes were painful.

Initially I was thinking that it was a great thing for OLP, but because he butchered it and got such terrible critiques I think he has done his favorite band a disservice.

He oversang it, he sounded horrible, and the "Give Back" on his hand at the end was pretentious, I don't care what kind of motives he had to do it. Don't try to emulate Raine, dude, you're nowhere NEAR his level.

Agreed. If he had of managed to pull it off like the guy that sang Jeff Buckley's version of 'Hallelujah' a couple weeks back, it would have meant some decent exposure for OLP.. maybe not the best kind of exposure, but exposure nonetheless.

Innocent was definitely one of the best choices for an OLP song, in my opinion. Somewhere Out There probably would have another good one. I mean, sure OLP's ealier stuff is like 1000 times better, but American Idol cringes at Rock music (they're looking for ballads and stuff), so the guy was really limited with what he could choose OLP-wise.

lol you are pretty sassy, megan. ah, good old lj. i haven't been on there in forever

edit: i do agree, illusion. innocent and swot are among the poppiest songs OLP's done, and probably the more acceptable ones, but i don't think a rockier song would've gone over badly if he sang it well. to reiterate what you said before you edited your post, i think starseed would've been a good choice too.

The give back was him pretending he was Raine ... pretentious. But, then again, if he truly believes he's Raine... Haha.
