Solution to "Healthy in Paranoid Times" issues

Post by RageAgainstTheMachine »

As many of you have figured out, I'm sure, the Healthy in Paranoid Times CD will not go onto a lot of MP3 players due to the security features. I have seen a lot of angry posts on other bb's about this. I have figured out a solution to this problem. The solution may be used by the wrong people to steal OLP's music and share it on P2P, but there are people out there who are so mad at OLP that they are saying they will never buy another CD. I weighed the situation and thought I'd share my solution on my own bb and a few I found on Google.
If you own the CD it is possible to "capture" the songs and save them as normal MP3's quite easily. You first need to download a sound capture program like the All Sound Recorder from Tucows (it has a 30 day free trial) and install it. Then record the songs into the All Sound Recorder as MP3's by playing the songs one by one and hitting the record and stop buttons accordingly. It is a little old fashioned to have to record/convert songs at 1x speed, but well worth it to have OLP on my iPod.
I am not sure if I explained this clearly enough, so feel free to ask any questions you have.
I hope that at least some of you find this helpful.
Thanks,
Carolyn

Welcome to the board! :D

As far as using it on your computer goes, you can just hold down shift when the CD is loading to bypass the copy protection. (unless this is a different type of copy protection ... I know this works with some)

Or you can buy the Dual Disc copy which doesn't have copy protection at all.

Your best bet in any case is to join the Hub and download the album there (after buying it first, of course :heythere: )

The one without XCP protection isn't protected at all anyway is it? As you said, neither is the dualdisc. Also, I found out that you can copy a protected CD on a stand-alone burner and then the resulting CD-R has no protection. Of course, that would require you to have a stand alone burner

I followed some instructions online that advised how to disable the copy protection, and I was able to then easily rip the songs and play then on my mp3 player and my iPod

yeah, that's the other way with this one. Although, if you remember to hold shift every time the CD loads, you can avoid it installing at all. But after one slip up it will install.

It's easy enough to get rid of with the right instructions, though.

I didn't know about it the first time so I loaded the CD and it installed and I had to figure out how to bypass. I don't think I know how to actually get rid of the thing that was installed though...

 You're sweet to come over here and try to help us with the situation... but as you can see we're all huge geeks and have already figured out many ways to get around it.

You should stick around, though! Maybe if something like this happens again, we can help you get around it much much sooner. (Let's hope it doesn't, though!)

I thought this was going to be a social commentary.

I feel silly.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything

Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
