One song you wish you'd written

Post by starseed_10 »

stolen from somewhere else:

Which one song do you wish you had written? One that you'd be willing to stand or fall on the basis of it's merits and as a song you can identify with

This is way hard by the way!

Also, please no lists. i came up with a list but i can't narrow it down as of yet.

Haha. Instead of coming up with some brilliant timeless masterpiece of music I'd probably say I'd wish I had written Thriller or Hit me Baby One More Time or some insanely overplayed pop song so that I'd get lots and lots of royalties.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Are we looking at this from a strictly lyrical perspective, or the song as a whole (instrumentation, composition, et al)?

Soon Forget by Pearl Jam is one that quickly comes to mind, but I'd really need some more time to consider it.

Brutus is an honorable man
It's just coincidence that oil men will wage war in an oil rich land
And this one goes out to my man taking cover in the trenches with a gun in his hand
Then gets home and no one flinches when he can't feed his fam...

But Brutus is an honorable man...

This is an insanely hard question. In terms of popular music, I think I'd go with Disarm by the Smashing Pumpkins. While it's not *lyrically* the best thing ever, I think the music is just absolutely amazing - all the random instruments they used to put it together. Sheer brilliance. And my favorite song ever.

If we're talking music as a whole though, Rite of Spring by Stravinsky. I don't know how he did it. Blows me away every time, and I wish I had the creativity and genius to come up with something both that revolutionary and that good.

Sorry is the fool who trades his soul for a corvette...

Haha, I love that song.

I'd probably say Off He Goes by Pearl Jam, but watch me switch to another PJ song tomorrow...

It's a tie:

Radiohead - Karma Police

or

David Usher - Devil By My Side

god this is hard.

I'm thinking that I'll have to go with something by Matt Good. I absolutely love his lyrical style, and the instrumentation always compliments it perfectly (although it's rarely the highlight of the song).

God damn this is hard.

If we wanna talk major royalties, we should all be saying "Happy Birthday".
