Tell me what to listen to

Post by Axtech »

I did this a while ago when I was in a music slump, and people seemed to like telling me what music I might like (by telling me about bands they like).

The last time I got pages and pages of responses, then ended up listening to I Mother Earth (which wasn't suggested at all). So that worked out well.

It's that time again.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Matthew Good (Band). OLP & IME are also mainstays in my collection. A few other bands have come and gone.

So, what bands/artists do you think I should try out? I'd like to try something a little different [having said that, I'll probably shy away from anything too eclectic], but suggest anything you like. This way myself and others can hopefully discover some new bands. Because let's face it, nobody actually reads all the posts in the "what are you listening to" thread

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

*looks thru music*

you should probably look for stuff that is simliar to IME/OLP first, not new stuff. although you might try newish stuff

(if you have not looked much into them already):

alexisonfire
fugazi
soundgarden
audioslave
thornley
wilco
ours

and i think you'd be one of those people who might like radiohead
but then i might be wrong

hmm this post is so not helpful

guys, being extremely picky, coupled with the fact that i live in a complete HOLE, is a really bad combination musically for a person. be thankful you're not me. that is your message for today.

knowing that you like franz ferdinand:

interpol
the strokes
sloan
the vines
hot hot heat

umm yah..

im making a lot of generalizations and crap.

right now my biggest suggestions would be

Ours:

Wow so good, check out the link in the other thread!

Death From Above 1979:

I can't push them enough, given time you'll love them.

Queens of the Stone Age :

If you like IME there's a good chance you'll like them
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

He's right, but who would want to? Wpuldn't that wreck them?

People could say the same about QOTSA and Ours though aswell, and Death From Above 1979 to an extent, well there could be more like them, but they started the whole thing.

I'm serious!

I adore those bands, but they represent a very high quality niche that really doesn't have many peers.

How could you accurately describe them even? Intellectually-innovative-guitar-driven-post-grunge-but-pre-emo-heavy-alternative-rock-but-definitely-not-punk-with-sung-not-screamed-vocals-and-high-class-poetry-for-lyrics?

yah i have to agree with josh cause that's very concise (at least the highlights parts :P) although what how you described them was pretty much the most accurate way to describe it
