Claire's Radio Show thread

Post by beautiful liar »

okay guys...i'm stuck.

my school has a radio station. they're accepting applications for shows, and if i want in i've gotta make my move soon.

my idea is a show linking poetry and music to showcase the beauty of language. Dylan Thomas, Jack Kerouac, the Doors, Neutral Milk Hotel...
the possibilities are there.

but i'm scared. i don't know what to expect. or if i'd freeze. or if it's a lame idea. or what i'd say. or do.

help!!

Sure go for it. Except go for what the general public would like (ie. no current event issues like saving whales or hugging trees like Lisa suggests).

So talk about the things that really grinds your gears, like for instance:
-automobiles, why can't they wash themselves and keep themselves clean?
-alcohol, why are there so many different types of alcohol?
-fries which aren't crisp. I mean if you order fries out, you want the nice, semi-thin crispy ones which are good forever, not those crappy fries which are soft when you get them and the only thing you can do is douse them with ketchup.
-rats, who doesn't love rats?
-People who say margarine is healthier than butter. Fools, ever heard of B.C. diary products? It's better eating organic food, rather than fake near plastic.

Things definitely not to talk about:
-the Sovereigntist movement within Canada
-why the B.C. Liberals have a $1.3 billion surplus and why the debt keeps on going up
-parents who go and blame Wendy's for their child who went missing after walking home from a night shift (any bloody responsible parent, if you really cared about your kid would drive them home after a night shift especially if you thought it wasn't safe driving home)
-why there is more media attention on Hurricane Ophelia and yet, 120 people were killed and hundreds more were injured in Iraq today
-why the U.S. is going after Marc Emery who is a Canadian and who the Canadian cops never cared about
When the consequence of rage comes through the living room floor.

I'd listen to it. The show idea sounds pretty cool to me. I'm not fully sure what you mean by it, but it sounds interesting.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

go for it

but umm... more music than poetry, because poetry is better in small doses.
and not too much Neutral Milk Hotel and friends, because unfortunately it won't sell too well until you get a bit of a following at least.

other than that, go for it very much. i'd listen

hmm *writes proposal*

Music and poetry are inseperable. Oral storytelling, ballads, epics, theatre, and music all stem from the same root of human communication. I am Claire Lacey, a first year student here at Glendon, and I would love to host a show showcasing music and poetry. Lyric rich music from any genre, interspersed with spoken-word poetry, short prose, and even the occasional radio play - by authors both reowned and unknown. One moment, music from the Doors, the next a reading from Lord Byron. Individual shows would be topical, thematic, or historical in nature in order to provide cohesiveness and to make things interesting.

how's it sound?? i need a show name, don't i?

Every now and then I fall out into open air just to feel the wind, rain and everything.
And though the hum and sway gets me down
, I'll find the way to peace and openness.

no way man, if you didn't apply, 10 years down the road you'll be wondering what would have happened if you had tried and got the job...and that thought would've haunted you for the rest of your life.
