Interesting... but I think this is like the 5th time in my lifetime I've heard about a 10th planet.

yeah but this one's larger than Pluto... other objects they found were smaller... and Pluto itself barely counts as a planet because it's so small.

The ancient Sumerians believed that a 10th planet, called Niburu, was orbiting the sun. They believed that it's orbit was so long, that it took thousands of years to complete 1 revolution around the sun. Since this information seems to date back several thousand years ago, some believed the planet would return sometime around March 2002 or 2003...

I believe they discovered this planet in March 2003, and finally declared it to be real recently. There were so many spiritual beliefs regarding this planet, but I believe it's just an eye opener. There's more out there.

This may not be the Sumerian Niburu... but it is a 10th planet.

K-PAX was the coolness.

And yeah, many would argue that there is even a 9th planet to begin with. Pluto is not only very remote, but it follows a highly irrecgular orbit unlike those of the other 8 planets, plus it's smaller than several of the moons of the other planets.

Astronomers last week announced that they have detected a body larger and more distant than Pluto. It's the biggest body found in the solar system since Neptune and its moon Triton were discovered in 1846. Whether the body, dubbed 2003 UB313, qualifies as our sun's tenth known planet is a matter of intense debate.

Meanwhile, another debate is also heating up. It seems 2003 UB313 needs a name. The planet's discoverer likes the name Xena.

A survey last week in the Sacramento Bee asked readers what they thought the new planet should be named.

The Perez-Dominguez family of Antelope, mom and dad, Virginia Perez-Dominguez and Abel Dominguez and their kids, Christina and Julian Perez and Athena Dominguez suggested:

• The Planet That Must Not Be Named
• Siriusly Far
• Dumbledore

The paper mentioned the Perez-Dominguez family are, in case you hadn't guessed, muggle fans of Harry Potter.

I agree, I think calling it Dumbledore would be most appropriate.

i can imagine what an uproar, and what a celebration that would cause. you would see all these harry potter fans suddenly looking on to become astronomers.

Crap, that's true. Raine made it very clear that Jer eats quite a bit (how does such a small guy eat so much? :wtf:
