Gay Marriage Poll For Sineads CAPP CLASS!

Post by closeyoureyes »

Hey People! OKay so I am conducting a research poll for my CAPP class project, on social movements/thought/mainstream shiz, its complicated. Anyways I need this poll, i'm conducting this for part of my research mark! I know we already have a gay marriage thread, this one isnt really to inspire conversation, but go for it if you like! Its more just because I need to conduct research, and where better than the CM!
Thank You Everyone!!!!!

is this civil marriages or marriages in the church? Because I'm for civil marriages but churches should not have to marry to homosexuals if they do not want to.

But if a church did want to, then you would support them doing it right?

Yes. I agree with gay marriages but don't agree that churches HAVE to grant them. I don't know if that affects my decision in the poll and I'm too tired to care at the moment lol.

Yes, I agree. By gay marriage i mean under the LAW. Religion to religion, church to church, They can agree or not if they like. But a gay or lesbian couple, can get a marriage license, thats what I mean.

TBH, and this is my opinion, the results of this poll are inconclusive at best and incredibly biased at worst. It's like asking a church congregation if they believe there is a God. :P It's common knowledge that this forum is left wing biased and hence any subject/poll raised here will be biased towards that end. IMHO you are better off going down to your local shopping centre and asking there. At least that way you will have a wider variety of responses and while you will likely end up with the same result... at least there is some degree of uncertainty as opposed to asking here where you know the results will be 95% yes 3% no 3% other. I have no objection to you conducting any poll here, buit from a statistical standpoint, I frown upon it because of its bias which is why I question its validity. Having said that, your teacher is not likely to know but that doesn't change the fact its statisitcally dodgy! (I'm such a pedant over these things :/)

If you really want to be clever get the phone book and randomly dial people :)

Th results from a classroom poll of my class, and a grade 11 class at a different school were almost completely the same as these[MORE pro gay marriage than here]. This isnt my ONLY research, i'm using it as a foundation with the rest of it. Today I give the poll to the faculty at my school.

This is a site about a band, not a political affiliation site. I know how you feel that everyone is on the "Leftist Bandwagon", but personally I think its bullshit, people can be leftwing or rightwing from any walk of life, period. And then, I can poll them.

This is how I am conducting my research, this is the right target age group and I find it to be very fair, there are people on this board to be from all walks of life, just the same as there is in my school.

Perhaps you're only saying something because far more people are for it, than against it, You can't get your homosexual-hate on.

Don't come back into this thread please, I really didnt want to inspire conversation from this, its purely for research only and god knows I dont care about YOUR opinion on the whole thing anyways.

Sinead, I gotta agree with Campbell. I don't think I would use this for my project either but only because I would doubt these results are consistent with regional sentiment. I don't think 85% of all people (nor this age group) are in favour of gay marriages. It just so happens we here on the CM might be open to more ideas because of our conversations which eachother. Also we all come from relatively the same socioeconomic backgrounds and have the internet at our fingertips to do research and to essentially learn more about things than the average individual who doesn't have the internet. I also have to agree that this place is pretty leftist. I don't think he's trying to slag gay marriages or anything, but I think he's trying to help you out because if I were your teacher I think I would be skeptical of these results as being a foundation for a paper.

No offense is meant Sinead. Just trying to help out. I think you need to survey kids from your school if you're just doing a certain age group as well. If you're saying that people generally approve of gay marriages I would try and go to the mall (which even then has some class bias...) or at least try and look up polls that have been completed by media outlets.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

I also gotta agree with Campbell. Let's just say I would have never ever used an online survey for any of my projects in high school or university. Also, Sinead... I think you need to calm down a bit when it comes to Campbell. He gave you his idea in a very constructive manner. He was not rude when he gave you his opinion. If anything, it really seemed like he was trying to help out. This is the kind of stuff which has drawn me away from the board lately. Not too many people can seem to accept criticism. If you want to get by in today's world, you have to be open to new idea's. You can't just bash people and tell them you think they are wrong. All he was doing was giving you a way to better research your project- and believe me, his idea is much better than going to an online community. Much more professional at least...

Anyways, that's just my two cents.

:P

This is only one of five or six avenues of polling/research I'm doing. I chose the CM because my teacher suggested the internet/outside of Canada, and the fact that some of the CM is international, gives me that. I can include the fact that it does have somewhat of a leftist air to it, but so far ALL of my research has been very for gay marriage. We'll see how it goes tomorrow with the faculty poll.
