This is it, this is the start of something completely mind-blowing that from the first announcement of this band's formation, I knew, it would be something to behold. Fair Ground are finally here ready to release an EP and I think it is safe to say that the general reaction will be very positive. Its a rarity for a band to come on the scene with the drive and fortitude that Fair Ground possess but at the same time the music is fresh thanks in part to Pete's amazing vocals and memorable songwriting. The material is easy to listen to and once you get it stuck in your head good luck on getting it out.
I have always valued quality music and this is some of the best that I have had the privilege of listening to and reviewing... Last year saw a lot of Lesperance's solo disc in my CD player and if this new EP is any sign of what is on the way then I consider myself a lucky man because I've discovered a group of musicians who deliver in all aspects of their sound: Intense guitars, great vocals, smooth harmonies, and above all genuine musicianship. 2005 has promptly kicked into the overdrive without any doubt in my mind we'll be seeing a lot of Fair Ground in the upcoming year as well as on the Island's Best of list early next year.
Well, this makes me a happy camper.

Well the writer quite CLEARLY has an insane bias towards the band already, so really, is the review even valid at all? I mean besides the INTENSE guitars and smooooth harmonies, does he have anything else to say about the band? Seems like pretty standard "I love [insert band name], they rock!" type stuff, just a tad more literate.

I like the part about memorable song writing. As everyone said over in the other thread, the EP is just some radio friendly songs that are made for top 40 radio. Fair Ground is more disappointing than anything. I really wish Mike, Jay, and Jaime had put out an album. That stuff was far superior to Fair Ground.

I dunno it sounds like this guy was a fan of Pete and whatever his old band was. Maybe he's used to this kind of music. But I haven't listened to them, so I don't really know what they were like.

Well I have read a few other reviews on the net about Fair Ground and Pete's Solo Record and they have all been great reviews....from one site that reviewed hundreds of cd's.....gravity from olp and contraband from velvet revolver were rated well below pete's solo record.
and just to clear things up....all of the songs but one from pete's solo record are being re-recorded and changed slightly with Fair Ground to be put out as Fair Ground's first record.....including the four songs we have heard already.....
as far as my own review....i have seen them live twice and talked to mike and pete at each of the shows and discovered that i may even like this band as much as...if not more....than olp.
they really put on a great show and are amazing musicians (their cover of LSD was amazing too).....they are going to be great....i can feel it

we talked about all kinds of stuff past and present....i wont say too much out of respect for him....
most notably and most shocking was that he has never talked to anyone in the band since they split
-he is still good friends with jamie though as they have worked together on projects such as jay mcgrorty
as far as fair ground....him and pete have been very close friends for 20 yrs and finally decided to do a project together after mike helped out on some of pete's solo stuff
oh...and to clear up all the rumors that bob rock broke up olp....to quote emtee himself "I loved working with Bob Rock"....so there you have it....now you all know....it was just personal and musical differences within the band and nothing to do with "the evil bob rock"....

I'd think if Mike was willing to talk to you about that stuff, he wouldn't mind you passing it on to us, if nothing else to stop some arguments from re-occurring more. I'm sure he doesn't wanna see us fight any more than we want to.
