After a while, yes, it wears me down. I'm angry. I want to come on here and see people who love the band this website is for, not to see all of that all the time. Of course I'm going to have a negative response to that mindset. Of course I'm going to express myself and get mad and tell you all what I think. I don't take shit from people anymore, I've been walked on my whole life, and OLP gave me the strength to be someone better, and I'm not going to come on here and sit here and look at all the bitchy self-righteous posts about how OLP needs to put out better music to please us fans because we're oh so important to what they do, and if they aren't going to release another Naveed then they aren't worth our time anymore. Yes, that's how you all sound to me. It's ridiculous the amount of negativity towards The Right Stuff (and the other new songs that have been played), I'm getting rather tired of the same old diatribe. I hated Life, I hated Innocent, but I don't come on here and say that every time the songs are brought up. The rest of the albums made up for the songs to me. This album hasn't even been released yet - why all the complaining if you don't even know how it's going to sound for the album?

...you are coming across as much more self righteous than anyone.

YOU want everyone to discuss the good.
YOU want everyone to stop discussing negative things.
YOU want people to stop speculating that this new album might not be good.
YOU think you have the right to get people to stop expressing their negative opinions, because it's not the type of discussion you like.
YOU put yourself higher than others by saying "I hated this, but I don't do what others do.."
YOU unnecessarily post whiny, bitchy posts because something bothers you.

thank you for your opinions, everyone else who posted. mindsonloan, you made some excellent points.

megan, please. calm down. take a step back. let us have our opinions. there is no need to continue posting about how you don't like what some of us have to say. there's no reason for you to try to put yourself above everyone else and try to convince us your opinion matters more.

no one will ever please everyone with what they have to say. so take the good with the bad, and let it be. if you don't like it, you are not obligated to read it.

Just noticed this quote and I just wanted to agree. My earlier comment may have set some people off and I apologize for that. The reason I said I would be "embarassed" (not my exact words BTW) if my friends heard The Right Stuff is because they know I love OLP and they've heard all OLP's earlier stuff, and they love it, so they would probably find The Right Stuff really off. And my post was partially meant to be tongue-in-cheek anyway (with the "Our Gentlemen Peace" comment). But I wasn't being confrontational so I don't know why some people blew up at me for those comments.

But I can see how my comments could have seemed pointlessly negative, and I regret that. The gist of what I was trying to get across was that I'm just not as "proud to show off" this new song as compared to how proud I have been in the past to show off the old music to my friends. I literally watch them as they listen to see if they enjoy and even lip-synch to the songs! The other night my (partially intoxicated) gf was singing along to "Annie" which I laughed at. I couldn't give less a shit whether they like it in the end, I just really love to show it off because it's kick-ass music (to me).

I am a proud OLP fan, and nothing will change that. Ask any of my friends and they will wholeheartedly agree (and probably will throw a few insulting comments about how obnoxiously much I listen to OLP music from like 1995).

You know Laurel, quit telling me to calm down because I'm perfectly calm, and I don't really care what you think since it's obvious you don't care what I think (thanks for letting me know my opinion doesn't matter, I'll keep that in mind for the next time I disagree with you and I'll just let you go on thinking your opinion is the only one that matters and those of us *oh right, just me* who disagrees with you is full of crap, right?).

I don't see the point in continuing this argument anymore since you're obviously never going to agree with me and we never have anything nice to say to one another. I let the argument go hours ago, maybe it's time you did the same.

I wasn't around hours ago to reply.

I felt the need to do that because it is not right for you to call others self-righteous when you are being exactly the same.

If saying that in turn makes me self-righteous, so be it.

ugh. enough, guys. the point's been made, the lesson's been learned, and everyone's sick of the fighting. if you still want to argue, kindly take it elsewhere.

so! the right stuff's video! i wonder when it'll be released! or when the single will be released, for that matter?

I'm actually looking forward to the video. If it is going to be animated that would actually be pretty cool. There are some really awesome animated videos out there, and one more video of the band playing and singing isn't going to make much of an impact. If they're trying to get noticed, an edgy animated video is the way to go, IMHO.

Well Teqtonik's website (under "News") says to just watch out for the video... so probably a few weeks? I wonder if MuchMusic will premiere it or if it will just leak online? Did MuchMusic premiere the 2005 singles? (or MTV?)

EDIT: Agree about the coolness of the whole animated idea, maybe it'll be an "In Repair"-ish type of video. That'd be cool.

I hope not - I don't want a repeat of In Repair - that's my favorite song ever, and the video makes the song for me. I'd hate to have that tainted with the different sound. Not that I don't like the direction they're going, but it's so radically different from Spiritual Machines it would suck to think of the new stuff when listening to SM/IR.

The animations on the site are pretty modern and a lot of them look like they're heavy in CG - Oli's art was fantastic but it wouldn't translate into this kind of video. I'm hoping at least for something Gorillaz-style (since I love their videos), but obviously something that would go with OLP.

i'm intrigued by this animation idea. teqtonik seems to do a lot of different styles of animation, including computer and anime. i wonder how they're planning to do the right stuff.

Yeah, so pardon my noobness but how have OLP music vids premiered before? MuchMusic? MTV? Was the OLP community forewarned about the date/time of the premiere?

Maybe this one will premiere online, you think? Teqtonik seems to have a list of their videos available right on the main page of their site... TRS will probably eventually be up there too.

I always just end up catching them after the fact, like if I happen to be watching MTV or something and they show it, or if someone posts it online. I haven't had access to Much in years.

The mailing list hasn't been active lately (unless I somehow got unsubscribed) - I would hope they would announce it on there but who knows.

On much music yeah, we've been notified in advance for most of them either by blog or by people connected to the group.

This is semi-off topic, but talk of Oli made me think of it. I'd really like to see OLP do something like that again, to get really artsy with the album cover/booklet. SM is the only one where they really did that--Happiness had pictures of the band running on the inside, but otherwise, they don't tend to get super creative with their booklets--but I think it'd be a cool thing.

Also, incredibly unrelatedly, if OLP doesn't put lyrics in the booklet this time, I'll never listen to them again. HIPT was a major disappointment in that regard.
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.
Waiting for something else,
