did anyone notice that on Bush's last speech that wasnt even mentioned?

and war on Terrorisim...oh and to liberate the Iraqui people...or was it biological weapons? Bush is an ass. I hate him...it's all about the money to him. He's sending troops over there on the guise of fighting terrorisim...it's been 2 years...and bin Ladin is still free...good work Bush...

I don't know if these comments were directed only at me, but I should point out that I'm not saying I don't care about what happened. I'm just sick of having it shoved down my throat. I'd rather mourn on my own in my own time than have the media bombard me with it everywhere I turn.

Plus, if I'm going to mourn, I mourn for more than just these people. I mourn for all innocent lives lost. Past and present. People seem to need a tragic event during their lives to understand other tragic events. However, that doesn't mean that we have to focus on only this one tragedy.

anyone ever look up the defination for terrorism?
and then for war?

they are ironicly similar. But I'm sure you already knew that.

Hey, I've been on the CM for a year now, because when I first joined, there was another thread just like this one!

Anyway for my thoughts on 911, go here.

Geroge Bush make a reference to it at every single speech. this day itself should be mourned at this day, but nothing more. for the rest of the 364 and 1/4 days left i don't want to hear it. you notice that Pearl Harbor day isn't so nicely packaged, it's not talked about all year long, but we remember it on the day itself nontheless. that's what needs to happen with this day.

Honestly, I didn't expect this comment to come from you Reno. Thanks for saying this though, because you describe exactly how I feel. It was a horrible day when it happened, but now every aspect of our lives have to revolve around 9-11 security, duct tape and plastic wrap. If you have a pair of nail clippers on you in an airport, you're considered a terrorist and subject to asenine searches.

No one is happy that 9-11 happened, but there's a time to mourn, and it's passed. Yes, remembering it one day a year is fine, but give me a break, every single day of my life should not have to revolve around presidential code orange scare tactics. It happened, it was sickening, and it could have and should have been avoided. One bad day in American history shouldn't fuck the rest of us for good.

I just turned on my TV and they were showing people jumping from the WTC. That was quite possibly the most horrible thing I've ever seen. People choosing to jump from the building to their death...God it was horrible to watch....

I couldn't even watch that when it happened, I don't want to see it now. I think it's great to have this moment of silence, like I said, but I seriously wonder if the families of the victims actually want to see this over and over? I don't know if seeing their pain really makes it better. I didn't lose anyone in it, or close to me recently...so I can't really say.

My point exactly. Let people grieve, and leave us all alone.

Very nicely put in your journal....I liked it

As for 911, it should not be forgotten....but it certainly does not need to be advertised like it is currently being!

I was going to post something, but your thoughts on 9-11 pretty much say it all.

The lose of any life is tragic, no matter how it is lost or when.

And I agree, being overly patriotic is an extremely dangerous thing. So is the media.

how come 9-11 can't be forgotten yet we don't care, or know about the many bombings in other third world countries? It doesn't seem fair.

Remember when everyone said that Pearl Harbor would be the day that would never be forgotten?

How often do you all mourn on Oct 7th?

Actually, that is kind of funny, because my grandpa died on Oct. 7, so it's not exactly the happiest of all days of the year.

Whoops.

Hell, my own ignorance just proved my point.

ok, maybe i didnt represent myself very well there, or you misunderstood me, but i have no problem with respecting the lives of people lost. that makes sense, if two people died or thousands did, i understand people mourning death.

what annoys me is that this girl, along with many others, are completely ignorant to ANY other word events. and im not assuming this, i know her pretty well, and i talked to her after the iraq war started and she basically knew nothing. absoulutly nothing. she didnt support or object to it, because she barely knew it was happening. just people in some far off country, who cares was her attitude. and that pisses me off. a tragedy is a tragedy, and when she decides to pay attention to ONE tragedy and ignore all else, that doesnt strike me as right.

the part that really pissed me off though, is the raising of the money. i recognize that people that were affected could probably use some, but millions have been raised for them. there are people right here in our community that could use that money just to survive. not one word was mentioned of these people that constantly go ignored. this tragedy didnt open her eyes, it closed her mind.

Alan, I cannot even watch footage of those burning WTC towers or of the pentagon.

Today I actually got tears in my eyes. :(

My TV was off all day.

yeah, i care about what happened on nine 11. i also care about the crap going on in iraq and what not. i think all of it is sad as hell.
maybe it's just me, but i think the whole world is fucked up. sure, the united states government is fucked up as hell. but we're not the only ones. this whole world has people full of hate, mostly due to ignorance. the one thing i would like out of life seems so simple i almost can't say it...elementary kindness. it sounds so simple...but think of how different the world could be. it's fucking mind-boggling.

So, what you're saying is that people are only allowed to mourn on the anniversary of their loved ones deaths? That's the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time. You can't choose when to mourn. It just happens.

And, about Pearl Harbor, yes, now not too many people mourn that day, but that's because the generation of people who remember it are slowly dwindling down to nothing. Not to mention, it wasn't televised so that everyone could watch the horror with their own eyes. September 11th was two years ago. We all remember it. We all watched it happen. Many many people know people who died in those buildings. Someday, 9/11 will just be another national holiday, and there will only be a few of us who truly know what the holiday means. But, right now, that's not the case.

Oh, and, I didn't think they were allowed to show those poor people jumping from the buildings on tv anymore. I'm really glad I didn't watch any TV today.

Oh, and Yannic, I understand where you're coming from... but you have to realize that when someone in your immediate family dies (someone who obviously had a pretty well paying job, if they were working in the WTC), you lose a huge chunk of your income (if not your entire income). Those families are still going through hard times, even with all the money people have donated, I'm sure.

Rob, Susan, Doug, Alan, and anyone else I have missed......you all make me sick. First of all 3 of you are Canadian and you act like your Americans. Maybe its because you feel your country is part of America, or maybe its just that you wish your country was as successful as America. Rob even said
(I don't know the stats, so I don't know if more were killed there than here, but I know that lots of innocents were killed there [I mean more as in on top of the innocents killed here
. What's with there "here" Rob?? Last I checked you didn't live "here". Why do you three CONSTANTLY feel the need to bash America and you don't even live here?! Do the 500 Americans that are on this board bash Canada......EVER??? There are PLENTY of things to bash and yet I can't find an anti-canadian or anti-canadian government thread on here. over 3,000 innocent people died on September 11th 2 years ago in the most horrific terrorist attack in the history of the world and you 4 have the gall to spit into the faces of the families and fellow countrymen who grieve for those people???? You aren't human. You argue that what the US has done in Afganistan and Iraq is worse than 9/11??? How can you justify that. First of all they knew WELL in advance that we were comming and why. All the Taliban, and Saddam had to do was give themselves up and no blood would have been shed. But we all know that didn't happen. And since when is war supposed to be blood free??? Name me one war were no one got injured or killed! CAn you do that? No you can;t because war involves killing. You all have this pipe dream idea in your head that the world can just live in harmony. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. ITS NOT HUMAN NATURE. More people died in Iraq as the result of Saddam than will die because of our action to remove him. You all act like you care so much about every human being on this earth and yet what are you doing here??? You are insulting the lives of everyone that died on Sept 11th along with their families and friends. People like you are the reason things like 9/11 happen. Apathetic SOB's that think everyone can live in peace. Who needs security or a military right??? The terrorists will just find something "peaceful" to do if we don't try and break up thier little network of buddies. Gimme a break! You 4 have no sense of the world around you and what goes on. There will never be a world peace. There will always be a country of group that wants to rid the world of others because of religion, culture, etc. There is nothing that you can do about it. So instead of insulting people's lives DEAL!
