Two disks. One CD, one DVD

PlasticAss wrote:Basically yeah, it's the footage that Rogers had put up.

The DVD has 3 sections:

1st is the Concert, which includes:
Picture
Thief
Innocent
Where Are You
Wipe
Clumsy

I won't know until I get home tonight if they have this in surround sound or not, but I highly doubt it.

In between songs they have interviews, same as the Rogers special.

2nd part of the DVD has a section called Discography. They have the jewels from all their CDs, and lyrics for all the songs on the CD except for Live.

3rd part is Photo Gallery, which are the pictures that Rogers released. There are a few extras but not many others.

I gave Better Than Here a listen, and I still need to listen to it a bit more. It's a demo, there's no doubt about that. It would have been nicer to include a studio track like KOTM, but what can you do.

Is it terrible of me that based on this I almost definately wont buy it? lol.

Also, Sonya, do you still want someone to mail you a copy? lemme know!!

What a waste of 15 bucks.

Why does OLP do this to their fans?

There is nothing new. Ok wait... Better than here. Everything else is garbage. A photo gallery? C'mon! Lyrics to the songs? Wow... you can't find those anywhere.

Very disappointed about this. What a let down.

I seriously cannot believe I just spent money on this. I've always been willing to spend money if something is worth it, but I feel totally dooped in this situation.

I have one thing to say about the new tune "better than here". They should of cut "don't stop" off HIPT

I personally don't feel that it's entirely a waste of money that the DVD footage is just the Rogers stuff. I certainly understand and agree that it would've been nicer to get footage that we haven't seen at all, but if we compare to the albums, the last few of those have certainly been available to download before being available to buy if you had the right connections... and yet it was still good that they did release those. That's just one of the risks you take when you download material that's not officially released. You might hear or see something that later will be officially released. :)

The problem is that the footage released by Rogers was free to any Rogers Digital Cable subscriber. Now we're paying for the same free stuff.

A few extra videos (They have starseed from Massey on olp.net) would have been the right thing to do in this situation, or include previous OLP videos like has been suggested so many times before.

Well it wasn't really free because they were already paying for it by subscribing to Rogers Digital Cable. And for all the fans outside of Canada and who just don't have Rogers, or didn't record it when it was available on Rogers, those people may want it. It could probably be compared to TV shows being released on DVD.

I definitely agree that including extras that we haven't seen at all anywhere would definitely be more than welcome, but I feel releasing what they did is certainly better than releasing it with no DVD at all. My basic point is that if they want to make more material available for people to purchase, I really have no complaints about it whether or not it's material that I've already heard or seen elsewhere (unless perhaps they tried passing something off as super exclusive never before seen content when it had already been used somewhere else, then I'd probably have a complaint about the false hype).

I agree, it is nice to have this in DVD format (I have the Rogers special in MPG format, so it's nice to have the proper media). When purchasing, I only wanted it for the DVD content anyway.

As far as previous disks go, I thought HIPT Dual-Disk was OK with the bonus feature stuff. But I guess with this one being a combination of everything they've done up to date, I was expecting a bit more. Even some footage from the latest Paranoid Times tour, or some of the videos and shorts that were put on OLP.net as far as interview content...But that was left out. They had mentioned months ago about releasing some additional B-side tracks, but that was left out too.

Nothing from this aside from the Demo is really new to me, I guess I was expecting a bit more. Having said that, I did get what I expected, that being the DVD content. I was hoping it would be a bit longer and include a bit more then what we already seen, but oh well.

Also if anyone notices any differences between the original mixes of songs and the ones on here, be sure to mention it! 4am has some additional percussion. I need to listen through the whole album though to find out about the rest of the songs.

I'm happy to have DVD quality Massey footage, although i was hoping for some of the stuff that was not included in the Rogers special, versus only material that I've already seen. That being said, Rogers is Canadian and isn't even available to ALL Canadians, it's market-specific, so a lot of people haven't seen it unless they got it from the hub. I'd say the vast majority of regular fans will be happy to have this DVD... while most hubbers and CMers aren't getting much.

I think they should release it as an HD DVD, it was broadcast in HD right? And definitely filmed in HD. So there could technically probably be bootleg versions of the broadcast that turned out higher quality than the officially released DVD, which seems a little bit silly for them to let happen.

One Man Army is also a different mix. It's most obvious in the intro but also some of the noises during the verses have been moved from the right to the left channel.

Life has a previously unused R.K. clip before the beginning of it (along with the sounds that are heard at the beginning of the Life video but not on the album). It also has slight reverb added to at least some of the vocals.

Well from someone who has never seen any of the Massey videos... it's probably worth it. And that clip of Better Than Here on Sony gives me so much hope for the direction of OLP.

Unfortunately, I have tried many times on the HUB but have not been able to get the thing to work, so I haven't had the pleasure of viewing any of the Massey Hall stuff. I live in the US and the CD probably won't have the DVD (so the rumor goes). I'll wait until next Tuesday to see and if not, I'll order the Canadian copy instead!

Just got the CD. I HATE "Best of" albums but I'll do anything for OLP...

Also, I've never seen the Massey stuff before so I don't feel completely ripped off.

"Better Than Here"...I wish they had gone back and re-recorded because that song has tons of potential.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong
