Oh yeah, and they're soooo not emo. Lyrics about girls don't make a band emo.

agreed.
although they do have the appropriate following of thirteen year old, unnecessarily fake-sensitive girls.

Either way, this is still a good thread. It doesnt deserve to be spammed quite so early.

after dozens of minutes of pondering, i voted lyrics.
for me, good lyrics don't have to be as cryptic, it could be simple yet perfectly worded. as long as the words touch me in some way i'd call them good.

meh none of those are out of the ordinary other then Jer. Your right Jer was VERY talented. Even people that hate OLP, like Jer. He was always the onein the group with the most raw musical talent. as for the rest though, meh, mike had his moments but he wasn't really much better then anyone else. He was just the coolest member outside the music, and the best influece on the music.

they weren't necessarily instrumental stand-outs, but they knew how to make everything sound right.
I dont care if Hendrix was playing in place of Mike, i dont think they would have sounded any better

I wish their had of been a "Depends On The Band" option.
Anyways, if it comes down to it, Music is more important. I love lyrics, dont get me wrong, but Muuuusic is my first passion.

Music. I'm all for meaningful lyrics, but the song still sucks if the music can't support them.

The question is, would you still like the song if the lyrics were mediocre?
For example, Incubus had a lot of songs with fantastic lyrics in my opinion, but the song "Are You In" off Morning View has a lot of "oooh"s and "Are you in"s but not a lot else.
I still love the song because I think its a great piece of music. Can you love a song like that, that has great music but meh lyrics?
On another topic there is a band my friend was telling me about that essentially sings jibberish. Would you still care about lyrics then?

There are SO many great songs that have jibberish lyrics... and I'd name some if I wasn't lazy right now.

allow me,
El Scorcho by Weezer.
I think that song is a long enough list of worthy jibberish lyrics

God I LOVE the lyrics to that song! Seriously, what are you talking about? Ok they don't make TOTAL sense, but I just love it, and anyways Weezer tends to be like that.
"Well I should pull my head out of the sand
Cause I think we'd make a good team
And you would keep my fingernails clean
But that's just a stupid dream I won't realize
Cause I can't even look in your eyes without shaking"
You want jibberish? Two word: Michael. Stipe.

IME are great and Brian doesn't always enunciate properly, and even when he does sometimes the lyrics are rather odd. But it's all because Brian's singing has always been more melody and emoti8on then words

ya I am the Walrus was done on purpose cause everyone was trying so hard to read into John's lyrics. He decided to fuck with everyone's head and wanted to see how they would analyze that one. Oh I wish he was still around.

Another Beatles song that doesn't make any sense (or at least to my knowledge doesn't) would be Come Together.
I personally can't decide. Lyrics are important to me, but I've also been known to enjoy japanese music.

That's one thing I love about IME. Christian writes the lyrics, then Brian sings them in a melody to perfectly match the song. It's almost like since Brian didn't write them, he's not held down to singing the lines and words separately in order to hold onto the meaning. He's more concerned with the song than the lyrics.
