The Family Maida
I've always taken All For You to be about his father .. that makes sense to me .. I don't really understand the connection between that song and their record company though .. that wouldn't make sense at all.
That's just me though
That's just me though

I'm guessing the two Maida siblings are close, at least by now, but await the word of you experts...

I found some quotes and things by surfing around:
Clumsy: "There's a connection between the song 'Clumsy' and it being the title of the album. There's a line in the song that says: 'I'll be waving my hand/watching you drown/watching you scream', it's about seeing something but not seeing it for what it really is. It's about decisions. That image of 'waving your hand/watching you drown', is about seeing someone in the water, they're waving at you, and you're just waving back, not realizing that they're drowning. Or you think they're drowning, but they're just waving at you. It's those weird situations where you just take something at face value, but you can be so wrong. You have to look deeper and question things. I think it's something that too many people don't do these days. We're so unindated with the fucking media, and you just believe it. How many times, not just to focus on us, have we read an interview or an article where we've been completley misquoted? We're just some small band, when you think about some of the major players and you really have to question how true it all is."
4AM: This song has to do with the relationship between him and his father. The title of the song has a double meaning as well. '4 am' - the time he wrote the song and 'for A.M.' His fathers initials.
Superman's Dead: "It's just about how hard it is for kids to grow up today. They're inundated with the media and images and cliques they try to have to fit into. Two images that are really strong for me lyrically are "Ordinary's just not good enough today" and when I think of kids today, I would never think of a group of eight year olds going out to a baseball park and throwing the ball around. It doesnt happen anymore. I have a nine year old brother; he's either inside playing Nintendo or staying up late on a school night to watch Beavis and Butt-head. And you juxtapose that against the old Superman, on the black and white series. He was also a real hero, good values, strong willed, a gentleman, but I think Beavis and Butt-head wins today."
I couldn't find anything on Are You Sad ..

oh, i had that thing about clumsy in my locker last year.
and i'm pretty sure raine's bro has the same dad as him, not mom. cant remember where i heard that, so the 'my father'/ 'our father' thing doesnt really work.
and cass, you're right. it doesnt really matter to me who clumsy is about, i'd rather take the meaning of it and relate it to my own life. good art is like that.

It was me who said it (good memory!), but like someone else already said, that was about DYLI.

This is another vague memory of mine: listening to an MP3 of "Do You Like It" in concert and Raine prefacing the song with the explanation that, yes, it's about the record company.
Thanks to everyone who set me straight on "4AM."

I actually go to camp with a guy Aaron, who is in Adam Maida's class at a private school on the outskirts of Scarborough. Apparantly Adam and Raine didn't have a very good relationship in Adam's early years, but only recently have the brothers become closer, because at 15, Adam is probably alot more mature now, so that Raine and Adam might start to relate to each other.

What does their age have to do with why they would or wouldn't be on speaking terms?

Well, since there is such a huge gap in age, it would be really hard to get along, as their intelligence, maturity, interests and social skills would be totally opposite and different. I know that even with my sister, who is only 3 years younger, that her and I don't get along at all.....for the same reasons.

I guess what I meant is why would their age gap mean they WOULDN'T be on speaking terms. In other words, I agree with you, Marissa. Reread the question Dazedbylies asked me.

oh alright, i see what your saying, and i agree......the age gap alone wouldn't necessarily mean that they wouldn't be on speaking terms...sorry bout that

Talking from Experience(my older sibs are 10, 12, 15 and 17 yrs older then me) It probably has more to do with age. I mean think about it. Raine was touring with OLP when his brother was just a little child. It is almost like he is a father figure to him. I can't say for sure. I only know in my case my oldest brother( the one 17 yrs older) was out of the house before I was 2, married when I was 4 and a father when I was 5. I barely knew him or lived in the same househould. It is possible this is the same thing with Raine. Now that we are older I talk to my brother and am closer then when i was younger. This could also be because both my parents are deceased now and my sibs sort of look after me to make sure I am okay.
In Raine's case he probably feels closer to his brother now cause he is older.
I feel love, I feel a power. It comes to me in the darkest hour. And I want to feel it again

I haven't the foggiest, Nikki. Like I said, I only vaguely remember listening to this, and it's been untold months ago. I'm not big into the whole MP3/ripping thing. I'm not even hooked up to The Hub. Probably should be, and I'd probably really dig it, but the time to invest in it never seems to arrise.
