I agree with everybody else
The first four CD's I sort of grew up with.
They were my high school CDs
and I still love them, oh yes, I really do
OLP was like my therapy for four years of my life
And I do like Gravity
I had to listen to it for a month straight to actually enjoy it
but I do like it
in a different way than the 1st 4 CDs
but sometimes you just have to move on
I mean, I still love the band and will go and see them
but it's just not how it used to be

the same with the concerts
I used to ONLY go to OLP concerts
so I didnt know any better
go to other bands' concerts
they play different songs
they sometimes take requests
it's very different
and I like that
an OLP show is pre-fabricated
you know exactly what's going to happen
hell, I think i saw them 6 or 7 times in the past year
I know EXACTLY when the lights do weird tricks
when Raine is gonna raise his hand
it's all predictable
I used to like travelling to see them...
but for the same old stuff?

aw that's totally sad, but true.
i don't know, it just seems like OLP is a brand new band. i really hate considering SM-era OLP the same as Gravity-era OLP because they really aren't, I mean, they changed a lot more than the music too.
oh well, i mean, i think it's just because after years of listening to the same CD's you're forced to go out and find different music and that's what i've done.

I go to concerts for good, live music and unexpected surprises. I go to an OLP concert for the same 19 songs over and over again and, for all intents and purposes, a choreographed show. Everything is the same. Every movement, every look, every single reaction is the same. At first it was bearable, but the more and more I go to see different bands play now, the more and more I get disturbed by OLP.
I went to see The New Amsterdams last night and they took requests. That was great, it was like, "Hey, since all of you here are fans, we'll play what you wanna hear." See, it's a band with a lead singer in a really bigband (The Get Up Kids) taking time to do what the crowd wants. Koufax does the same thing. The last time I saw them was unfortunate because the singer was losing his voice, but the time before that, they went well over the venue's curfew and played all but three of their songs and played two cover songs. That's pretty fucking amazing.
Alkaline Trio can do lots of unexpected things. They don't dance around or anything because they play their instruments, but they change their lyrics to the songs all the time just to get a reaction out of the crowd. "My Friend Peter" was changed to "My Friend Detroit" when I last saw them. During the solo in "Cringe" Matt sang about how much he loved Detroit. That's something awesome to do for the crowd. Rob from Koufax claps, snaps his fingers, dances around, and still manages to play the guitar on time. It's great.
OLP doesn't do anything like that. Raine barely talks to the crowd, let alone lets you know how much he likes the city he's in. Detroit is practically his hometown in America, and yes they did an instore here, but beyond that, this city is just another stop in the "make money tour (insert year here)." It's sad. Everything is predictable and impersonal. It just seems as if they don't even want to play anymore, but rather just go home.
The last time I saw OLP I paid nearly $30 a ticket, and I knew exactly what was going to happen. I stood up front and I knew each and every thing that happened before it did. That was the last time I saw OLP. I learned my lesson, if I decide to go see OLP when they go on tour again, it will only be once, because I get easily disappointed by the same thing happening over and over again. Because of the last tour, I have a strong hatred for All For You and Do You Like It.
Codith, we "disrespectful" fans expect more from OLP than top 40 music. We expect this thing called creativity, which they abandoned after Spiritual Machines flopped. If they can't give us 10-11 songs of good music, then why should we lie to ourselves? If we think it sucks, we should say it sucks. I am not going to lie about it. I hate their new songs. They're average at best. Not only are they like everything else, they're not even good enough to get moderate radio play. So in all reality, they choose to make more fans, but in the process, make their music so fucking bad that they make songs that wouldn't even get on the radio. If they want new fans, fine, be my guest. Make your three or four radio songs. But do the real fans a favor and make 14 song cd, 10 songs of actual intelligent and creative music, and 4 songs to get you more fans and more money. Don't fuck your old fans in the ass, we deserve better than "Made Of Steel."

i have seen bright eyes 3 times in the last 6 months and all 3 times he played completley different songs maybe leaving 6 out of 13 the same which is about a 50% change each time. that is just one example, I have seen some bands that are as popular as OLP and act very different. I saw Cold and Early November both of them were surprised that people were so into the music and that they were singing and moshing to it. They said they couldnt wait to come back to Long Island. OLP expects fans to come sing along hell it makes Raines job easier. there is just so much more energy when i see other bands play, the bands are so much more greatful to be doing what they are doing. When is the last time you heard Raine say "We are gonna hang out after the show to meet everyone"...wait that is right he doesnt stick around for the 10 people who stand in 20 degree weather for 2 hours.
as for us being disrespectful, we are enititled to our own opinion and it is cool to see the new fans so interested in the band but it is a different band we were interested in.

hell you know what? I wouldn't care if they played up to 10 of the same songs. I mean OLP does have a lot of singles so that seems fair. But really I don't know why they couldn't rotate a good 15-20 songs into the other 8 slots. Obviously OLP has more songs to choose from than most bands out there and you can't expect them to remember how to play all of them, but I think it would be nice if they'd try to relearn some... I think the entire front row would faint if they played something obscure. Imagine them ursting out into Annie or Potato Girl out of nowhere? That would be pretty cool.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

In my experience, OLP has definitely talked to the people that waited after the show, which was nice of them. In Columbus, the 50 people that waited after the show got to talk to OLP for a good hour, at least. They didn't have to stand outside and do that for us. That was also the first night of the tour. When I saw them in Rochester, NY about 30 people waited to talk to them, and we got two minutes, tops, with Raine and Jeremy. We were put in a line and they would say hello, get complimented, take a picture, and move on. Duncan and Steve waited until everyone left, then came out. Since then, I haven't tried to talk to them.
When I met Alkaline Trio, they spent their time talking to us two hours after the show, which was damn awesome. They even had their parents with them, and they still took the time to talk to us, which was damn awesome. I saw Dan walk by with his dad and when he passed, I said he played a great show tonight, and he stops, comes back to me, and we talked for 10 minutes, even though he was with his dad, not to mention Dan doesn't like talking to people. Derek and I talked about his high school and how I used to date his best friend's sister. Matt listened to and responded to everything anyone said. He even hugged everyone. I guess you get different amounts of time with different people I suppose. I can't expect OLP to do what other bands that play the same venues do. Now that I think about it, Alkaline Trio played larger venues than OLP did, up until SOT and Innocent got big. That's kinda funny.
I dunno what my point was. Oh well.

Sometimes bands don't have the time to interact afterwards. It gets tough when you have to drive 10 hours to your next show. I guess you can't complain cause at least they talk to their fans, unlike many bands.

Yeah, rotating 21 songs in a 19 song set over the span of 6 months is fucking wrong. That's all I have to say about that.
