Taking away priviledges, etc. are ways
The idea of parenting is that you love your kids and you don't want them to do anything that could hurt them or anyone else. (IMO) You're not trying to force them to behave just because you can't handle them, you are trying to teach them to become the best people they can. I don't see how brutality of this sort is going to help the child, or society, in any way.

Mindless and frightened drones with pent-up anger? Not what we want in society. It may be easier on the parent, but that's no excuse.

My cousin was sent to a place in New Mexico because his parents found out he was doing drugs. He just got out a month ago after being there for a year. I thought it was pretty stupid because teens will be teens and they will learn one way or another what drugs will do to them. I don't think my cousin deserved to go away from home and away from his family and friends just because he was doing drugs.

And if the rebellious teen is question becomes violent and poses a threat to the parents? What if th teen never comes home and the parents never know where he/she is? I think you underestimate the severity of some of these teens problems.

all i know is
i wouldn't be paying no "tranquility bay" mofo's $2400 USD a MONTH to beat my children for me. i can beat my own kids, for free, THANKYOUVERYMUCH!

so if the teen is violent and is dangerous to the parent, they send their kid to somewhere where they will be treated violently and be put in danger?
how again is that helping anyone?

some people feel that taking it the extreme to fix certain situations is the only way to go.
How bout those 3 NJ kids that just got caught before pulling off another Columbine, that was some crazy shizzznit eh?
