I think that a lot of it has to depend on the emotions involved. If you're just seeing a bunch of girls casually, and no heavy emotions are involved on either side, date as many girls as you want. But I would say that once stuff like 'love' gets involved, it's probably a bad idea. Somebody's going to get hurt. If you love somebody, you should either ditch all the other, meaningless, relationships and focus on the one you care about, or put that one girl on the "off-limits" list. There's going to be a fair bit of pain either way, but at least if you cut off the relationship now, any future relationship you might have with her won't be tainted by all the pain of seeing somebody you love treat your relationship as casually as a fling. In that situation, you can't have it both ways.
On the other hand, you have no real obligation to end it if only she is getting hurt by you seeing other girls. She has to stand up for herself.
