Dash is one of my biggest guilty pleasures. I can't help but liking the music, even though I find it extremely pathetic that Chris Carraba is 27 years old and writing songs about high school level relationships.
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.

age means nothing though, especially in relationships where you can feel the same thing when you're 13 compared to when you're 30 compared to when you're 65. The same feelings come out and therfore can be written about in many different forms.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Dashboard in Detroit.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

Agreed. however, I still think Chris Carraba writes about high school level relationships. For example...

So Impossible

So she says
"Everyone's going to the party,
won't you come if I come
with a friend for your friend?
I'd be so pleased to see you
out of the classroom wearing the smile that I'll bring you.
I was hoping to learn a few things like..
Do you do you like dishing the dirt
on the whole class &
talking the big smack &
playing the fool &
wearing all of the latest fashions
or bucking the new trends
wearing your old threads.
If you like coffee in the evening.
These are a few things that I'd like to know
that I'd like to know"

So I said...
"I've been scheduled to work but I'll call in
and my friend isn't busy
he'd be happy to join me
and maybe my friend
and your friend
will hit it off or maybe we will?"

I'm dying to know
do you do you like dreaming of things
so impossible or only the practical
or ever the wild or waiting through all your bad bad days
just to end them with
someone you care about
and do you like making out
and long drives and brown eyes
and guys that just
don't quite fit in
yeah do you like them
So yes, I'll see you there.
don't look now, just keep watching the TV hating what's too see waiting for someone to say something that's right.

Yeah, he might sing about high school relationships, but he's talented. Can you play the acoustic guitar, sing, and get signed to the biggest punk label around? He can. Anyways, he writes music that people can relate to. And although you might find it corny with what he writes, last time I checked he has his own MTV Unplugged and sold a couple hundred thousand albums. I know if I ever start a band, my music will be greatly influenced by him and Alkaline Trio, because their music seriously touched me. And if I am lucky enough to start a band and be in the music industy when I am 27, I would continue to write my own brand of depressing music if that was how I felt and would continue to make me money. I applaud Chris Carrabba for his talent and marketable music.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
