We're arguing about the validity of the accents used in the Smurf cartoons. Personally, I think that real Smurfs would have had a Scottish accent. Maybe Irish.

Also, we're arguing about the plural of "Smurf". I think it's clearly "Smurfs", but some people insist on "Smurves".

If the purpose of this thread is to argue with eachother, I might as well lock it now.

Remember everyone, keep it civil. People have different opinions. Just because the rest of the country hates each other over this doesn't mean we have to. We're all the same people we were three days ago, so what's changed? Everyone's a little over-sensitive right now. Just remember that every post isn't meant as an attack, and that people generally come to the board with the best of intentions.

well
then
now that this thread has uhh
gone to hell

allow me to toss in my 2 cents

now this first part will/may come off as being a life story type of thing
but i dont give a rats ass

as some of you know, i grew up in nova scotia for some 18 years or so
(i was born in india moved there at the age of 1.5)
i also have lived in and do continue to spend time in jacksonville, florida
i also have lived in toronto and do (intend) to spend more time there
im currently living in saskatchewan

personaly, i consider all of those places to be home to some extent and taking what sarah has mentioned and stuff there ARE differences in all those locations
i notice these differences every day when i talk to my folks
or when i talk to my friends who live out east or over in TO
hell, im told *I* am different then most others out here all the time by the ppl that meet me

cass i like you kiddo so im not trashing your opinion, etc but there is a huge diff between visiting a place and living in it ... before i moved down to jax, i went down to visit my dad and spend time there and my opinion of the place was much more different then after moving there. nothing major mind you or obvious but little things that you do notice

then again it could just be the difference when you live in the south like jonny did and like i do or something im not sure but they do exist.

jim where in the US did you live? IMO that is important, it doesnt change things per se about YOUR opinion but it does play a factor in it.

The website originally had the pic labelled as asshole.jpg I'm sure you'll find plenty of hits on google with it.

More stuff.

Why does YOUR opinion have to be the right one? Just because you believe that he has done the wrong thing, doesn't make you right. 59 million people voted against you Nik and 54 million for. To some of them maybe he did do something wrong but they believe he can do it better than Kerry.

Megs: Oh please. Don't be naive. A) it was a generalisation and you know that. and B) its true. I've been there I've experienced it and you're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

People are taking things personally. I'm not locking it because I'm hoping that people will start discussing things rather than arguing about them.

It was just in Buffalo, NY. As much as it's just over the river from where I live, things are still different enough where there is difference, but not as much as there might be if it was Kentucky or something like that. It is nontheless the USA.

I've spent a lot of time in the states for hockey as well, and have billeted with families. The main thing I've realized is that beyond accents, there is little difference between the countries. What can be found in the USA can be found in Canada. Day to day life is not that much different from my experience.

The only differences I can see are from region to region, which can be seen within countries themselves, so it doesn't necessarily make it a difference in countries. This has to do with geography, social class, and in some cases religion and/or values.

obivously it was a generalization, i'm not saying there isn't racism and whatnot, but i'm sure there is all of that same good stuff where you live too. am i saying it doesn't exist? no, of course not, but is it as widespread and rampant as your original post made it out to be? hell fucking no. and no i'm not just this naive little girl thinking, "omg racism is bad, let's pretend it doesn't happen."

I'd just like to say that I knew Bush was going to win.

I also knew the Liberals would win a minority government, that Darrel Stinson was going to win in my riding, that Kerry would choose Edwards, that the US would win the most medals at the olympics, and that Canada would win 12. There really hasn't been that many surprises this year.
