So, she said "hey, don't write my songs, screw this, I'm moving across the country," then got professionals to cowrite all her songs. Yeah, that's not at all stupid.
As for the OLP bit, they still got stuck touring the crap bars and shitty spots. In one interview Raine mentioned nearly quitting the whole thing since seeing people in the reservations drunk and being thrown out of bars at 4 in the afternoon was too much.
They made their own first video, demos, etc. and sent them out to labels.
Avril was handed a deal, video, and so forth by the labels. She had it MUCH easier than OLP did. They had it easy because Naveed was actually a great album. She had it easy BECAUSE OF HER LOOK. STOP TRYING TO FUCKING DENY IT. YOU ARE WRONG.
I fail to care if she can sing. So can Celine Dion. It's the choice of music she's made. Her songs are crap. She is popular because of the punk-pop wave that's currently building. That's it. Had she tried this a few years back she would've been laughed out of the limelight. Why? Because she. is. selling. an. image.
In order to sell an image, you have to be at the right place and the right time. Let's look at OLP, since it's the thing to do.
They made an album based loosely off a book about man and machine coexisting, a book that discussed artificial intelligence and how it would affect humanity. They managed to do rather well with that album, as I recall. That's not selling an image. Who out there is really into the music-based-off-books image? No one. They made a quality record that would've done pretty well regardless of what pop fad was going on in the background.
Compared to Avril, who is only popular because of her image.
And yes, I am hoping that if I mention it enough you'll finally catch on.

so if your a musician and are in that situation........ you expect her to say "oh no thats alright please dont sign me" even tho the company came to her
and no im not a fan, im just saying anyone whos a musician that wanted to be well known would do exactly what she did
I never said that.
What I did say is she never should have been in the position to be offered a record deal in the first place. She didn't get her ass kicked and stick with it through the shit because she really enjoyed making music. It's called weeding out the crap, and it's not happening as much as it should.
And to Clumsyfish:
I apologize. I was under the mistaken impression that you had simply fallen for a marketing scam, which is a minor sin at the worst. I didn't realize that you had shit for taste in music. My humble apologies, I won't make the mistake again.

Just because I have a different opinion on music than you do, doesn't make my taste in music shit .. we all have different opinions on music, your opinion is no better than anyone elses .. and the fact that you can't even participate in a discussion without throwing out insults and putting people down shows what an asshole you are ..
Go back and reread your posts about Avril. They all contain things about her image. From "She really does ride her skateboard," and "She dresses and acts how she likes," stuff about her attitude, etc.
You DID fall for an image. Deny it as much as you like, but you did. You are annoying me because you can't just come out and admit it. You are actually trying to convince me that her music has some sort of merit outside of a catchy hook, which it really doesn't.
Also, I tend to forget that typing carries no inflections, making sarcasm work less than well. Didn't mean to come across so harsh, but her music does still suck.

No .. you go back and read .. everyone else is caught up on her image talking about how she's lying about boarding and all this crap about ties .. I said many times how none of that should matter .. that it's about the music, not her fashion sense or her boarding abilities ... I don't give a flying fuck if she boards or wears ties cuz I'm not hung up on her image, that shit means nothing to me .. I don't have to admit anything to you cuz I've been being honest all along. I don't think her music sucks and I don't care what sort of clothing 'trend' she started .. I've never allowed the media or other people to influence me on my likes and dislikes when it comes to music .. I can think for myself and come to my own conclusions ..
Well, it would seem that there are differing views on Avril. Some of us like her, and some of us don't and I think it's probably time to leave it at that.
And yes I know what a comparison is. But the thing you are missing is that I was comparing the situations, not the two things (OLP, and Avril Lavigne) themselves. And no I'm not going to cry myself to sleep because someone who's name I don't even know said bad things about me on an internet message board regarding an issue that I don't really care that much about.
Anyway, if there's one thing that no one can take away from Avril Lavigne (I know someone is bound to disagree) is that she is damn good looking.
I think you've made you're opinion (or the "truth", as you would have us believe) quite clear, so why don't you fuck off.
By the way, you seem to know a lot about Avril Lavigne for someone who hates her guts. Strange? yes.
It's an internet message board. It's sole purpose for existing is for people to talk about opinions.
And all the info I got I got from an article at antimusic.com and the article posted earlier, along with a few brief interviews I saw on mtv news. She's in the media a lot, a person's bound to pick up a few things.
By the way, you were the one who started throwing around the crap. Don't be so surprised when you run into someone who's better at it than you.

i would............. i always cry myself to sleep over things that arent im oprtant to me because its fun
ok. Let's just stop this here. Narbus, you don't like Avril. Jo-Ann, you do. It's not like anything either of you say is going to change the other's point of view, so it's not really worth it. So, let's just call it a truce. It's not worth it to bicker over somebody's musical opinion.
HARDCORE!!!
OMG. I can't believe I din't think fo you
until now because when I think on
a scale of one to ten you're like YWELVE.
No, seriously?
but anyways i've got to go cry myself.... well not to sleep but i've got to go cry because someone on a message board offended me at some time or another
Is she supposed to be punk or something? Could of fooled me. Sounds more like crap-pop to me.
picturize the nights and days you close the book and float away and somehow in between you gotta master lying to yourself you max your cards get out of school you get a job your job gets you and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else

I wasn't trying to change anyone's point of view .. I understand people don't like Avril and that's fine. But at least have good reasons for not liking her .. her 'image' or clothing isn't a justifiable reason for disliking a persons music .. and facts taken from music magazines designed to bash bands doesn't count cuz that stuff is fake or rumors, obviously .. people are gonna have different tastes, but putting someone else down, insulting them and calling their taste in music shit cuz it's different than yours IS something to argue about and unlike some people I actually stand up for things I believe in and if that means getting into a discussion about music, than so be it ..
