Raine doesn't exactly have that much range, but I still like his singing style.

That's what is so great about his voice though .. no matter how many times you've seen them live, he never sounds the same. With his spastic movements and his "acrobatic" voice it's always a different show.

I don't think Raine sounds that bad in concert. When they're on the late shows and stuff he doesn't sound fantastic, but he lacks the enthusiams during those performances that he shows in concert. At the concert I went to I thought he sounded amazing, and he showed so much passion for what he was doing. I'm definitely not going to complain about how he sounds in concert.

I'm one of those people who heard superman's dead for the first time and instantly was hooked to his voice. It was unique and it just hit me the right way. It's like all the music I listen to, I like stuff that's a little different. Incubus, Radiohead, none of them sound alike. But OLP is by far #1 because of the blend. With Raine's voice, Jer's drumming, etc., they just have the best of every world in one band.

GO OLP!!!! :D yeh.. i think olp are pretty good in concert.. i personally think david usher is much more intimate with the audiance...but i've only seen olp 2 times, and i've seen david usher ... i can't even count...at least 5. so who knows? it all depends on a bands mood and such wen they do a show.. i just CAN'T wait til they come fer their gravity tour tho.. it's just gonna rock  .. i hope.. anyways, this is all spam and has no point what so eva so i'll stop now..

I haven't been to any OLP concerts before this year, but from hearing recordings, I think his voice is sounding better live now... he sounded really good when they were at Tower Records. I just know that I have this live version of The Birdman that was recorded a few years ago, and it almost sounded painful to listen to him.. "Nobody's wrong... nobody's riiight...."

like i've told alan before, raine wasn't born with a talant for singing although he was born with a unique voice. he had to work really hard to get the techniques he uses. its hard for him onstage i guess to hit pitch (i dunno, maybe lack of internal intonation?) but he still pulls off an amazing show!

oh yeah...3 words illustrate the beauty of his voice in my mind:

He started off horribly at Tower Records, actually.. a lot of those songs shouldn't have been played acoustic, he was holding back his voice too much and it didn't sound right.

But none of that matters because Are You Sad? was amazing, there. It's amazing period but it was completely beautiful, at Tower Records.

^ I never heard a better acoustic version of a song...ever
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

I was playing Superman's Dead on my guitar, and my dad heard me doing the whi-e-ie s and he goes, "Hey, I can be in that band. I mean, I can't sing." I just had this stunned look on my face (between this :wtf: and this ) because I couldn't believe he had the nerve. And the next day I had my friend watch Conan after I ripped her some cds , so she could see them live... (not the best example, I'll admit) "Kristin, you're dad's right, he can't sing." But I don't care what they say.

That's because Raine isn't that great of a singer. However, he is good at what he does. You would never see him in a church choir but that's just not his style. Our parents grew up with solid singers behind the microphone. If you listen to oldies, the singers have greater range and much clearer voices. It is hard for them to understand why we love Raine's singing style. It's unique and doesn't sound like every other voice out there. That's why its great and we love it but it is a departure from the norm and therefore not easily accepted immediately.

fluttergirl wrote:repeat? play again?

 I do it, too. I just never noticed before.

Repeat and rewind is different.

Repeat is when you repeat the entire song, rewinding is analogue, it's when you want to listen to a certain part of a song.

Haven't heard Raine live, only person I heard live was Matthew Good, and he sounded amazing. He's just too perfect as a musician.
