In Repair
In Repair
Hi Gang,
I’ve always wondered something and was hoping that someone could help me out.
The monologue during the bridge in “In Repair” is damned near inaudible, it’s not referenced in the spiritual machines booklet and I’ve never seen any online lyrics page attempt to decipher it.
I can only assume it’s an excerpt of Ray Kurzweil’s book. Does anyone have any idea?

Re: In Repair
We've never been able to decipher it. I believe it is the sample pulled from the Terminalhead album in the credits, but I have no idea what is being said.

Also i'm curious to know what the man tells...i don't where but somewhere i read that the voice is from the pope John Paul II! Maybe i read here on CM in a thread somewhere! I think that we need to ask directly to Raine on twitter :-D

Re: In Repair
Raine and Mike had both told fans that the spoken bit was the pope, but I think Matt at some point contacted Terminalhead and asked them about the samples used in In Repair and One Man Army. They said the voice came from their sample collection Underfire Volume 2. So, perhaps Terminalhead sampled the pope... or perhaps Raine and Mike were making that up. Who knows.

Rich is apparently researching this.

Re: In Repair
you guys are so freaking awesome!
Re: In Repair
I'm kind of surprised nobody has ever figured this out. I'll admit, I spent some time running this through some different audio programs trying to figure it out. I get bored sometimes.
Re: In Repair
Rich says it is an audio clip of the pope, but is yet to figure out what is being said.

Re: In Repair
I'm almost a little nervous! After all these years, do we want to know? Could it possibly live up to our imagination?
Re: In Repair
So, I posted in the general thread about hearing the audio track being played during live shows. Never noticed it before. But anyway, I started playing around with the audio of the studio recording, both mp3 and flac. I haven't come up with anything conclusive, but I definitely think it's a religious speech which lines up with being the Pope. Word's that I'm a 100% sure are said: "heaven," "mercy," "continues to reunite (or Reignite)" I'm gonna keep playing with it... I'm gonna find out. This is how I'm spending my saturday night. ha.
Re: In Repair
Raine says its an excerpt from a sermon by Pope JP II. Not the specific answer I was looking for, but at least he gave an answer.

Re: In Repair
Yeah, once you clean up the audio a bit, you can tell it's John Paul II in the way he speaks. He was the pope of mercy afterall, which lines up with "mercy" being said in the audio.
I tried searching through some of his english speeches on youtube last night and searching the Vatican website's archive, but damn, that site is awful. Almost no way to search for specifics and there are too many speeches to go through for now.
I'm gonna keep tweaking the audio. I had some pretty good versions, but the distortion of the filters I was using caused some of the higher frequency to, well, get much higher. Gotta try to clean those up. Had to give my ears a rest tho. I'll post one maybe tomorrow and perhaps someone can understand it better than I.
On the note of what's being said, I was certain that the first thing spoken was "Just a little lower" which lines up with humans being made a little lower than angels in christian lore. But it started not sounding like that after I kept extracting the voice.
I might be a little obsessed...

Re: In Repair
About 10 years ago we went on a huge mission to get the answer. The guys at Terminalhead alleged that the sample came from their Underfire V2 disc. But we could never get a copy to verify, and they didn't answer a lot of questions we had about it.

Re: In Repair
Thanks for the continued effort on this one guys. One day we'll hopefully have the context.

Has anybody figured this out yet?
Still bugs me.
I still hear "Just a moment, please, sit. After all god made man to machine.
So continue to something, something, something reunite."

Someone asked this during the twitter AMA and Raine said it's a Pope John Paul the II quote:ShatsBassoon wrote:Has anybody figured this out yet?
